Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What's the worst thing YOU'VE done to your LO (accidently, of course)?

I had my DD beside me on the couch. I reached over her to grab the remote and dropped it on her head. :( She instantly started crying and then I cried too. It was horrible. Didn't even leave a mark though.

Then, if that weren't bad enough, she slipped from my grip in the tub, fell back and hit her head on the edge of the baby tub. She didn't cry that time, and she barely hit it cause I had her other arm held, but it, again, was really horrible.

Bad mom coming through!

  • No injuries yet, but I did realize not to long ago that I hadn't bathed her in a week. Embarrassed  She got thrown into the bath the second I realized it!

  • Nipped his thumb with the baby nail clippers- I felt absolutely terrible!
  • Cut him with my wedding ring!  He cried....I felt awful!  Crying  It wasn't that bad though...just a red mark.  But I didn't wear it anymore when I was still home on maternity leave.

  • the first time I gave DS a bath (in the hospital) as if I wasnt nervous enough while wiping his face he turned his head and I scratced his beautiful little face with my engagement ring...more recently as I was putting the tray back on his highchair he leaned forward and I bumped him with the tray...ohhh he cried and I did too! I felt so bad!!!

omg i did this last thursday---she crieeeeed..i felt so horrible!!
  • I also cut dd's fingernail a little too close and have taken a week to bathe her.
  •

I took sweet corn in from my aunt?s farm to my coworkers while I was on maternity leave so I took DS with me to show him off to my coworkers. I accidentally knocked him in the head with the cobs of corn and of course he let out a cry in the office.  It wasn?t that loud but I felt awful and plus I did it in front of people.

    this!

  • This morning, she was sleeping next to me and I had a bad dream (dreamt I was punching someone).  I woke up because I felt something hit the back of my hand and woke up to her crying.  I accidentally hit her on the head!  I felt so bad!  I had DH check her pupils to make sure I didn't cause any brain damage.  I think she was more startled than hurt.
  • When she was about 3 weeks old I was dressing her my niece was asking me questions and I snapped the button of the onesie on A's skin she wailed and i cried for like an hour! It was the worst i felt horrible
  • I've done the fingernail thing TWICE ? and the first time was the day we brought him home from the hospital. I now have a bit of a phobia about clipping them.

  • I had him leaning over my shoulder(burp pose) and he slammed his head into my bone when we sat down and his gum started bleeding. :o( he cried and then i fed him a little to calm him down and he was ok
  • When we were canoeing I was carrying DS from the Canoe to where we were going to have lunch.  It was up a hill and I was wearing flip-flops and I slipped and fell.  He landed on the ground and since it was up a hill he only fell about a foot, also he was wearing his lifejacket with the big pillow behind his head so he had a soft landing, but I felt horrible.   He giggled so I'm sure he wasn't hurt but I still feel bad.

I did this too...but worse...this is horrible because it was so dangerous...I took DD to the mall, and whenever we are gonna be somewhere for a long time, I undo or loosen her seatbelt (I had her carseat in the travel system)...and I totally forgot to rebuckle it on the way home. When we got home, I went to take her out and her buckles were all undone :( I felt like the worse mother in the wolrd!

  • I thought I was soooo smart by never wearing my engagement ring to avoid injuries...until I scrated him with my fingernail. Nicked him right on the shoulder and drew blood. He did the lip out type of cry and it broke my heart. Poor little guy, I still feel bad about it.

    Off to clip my fingernails...

  • I had just moved and I put DD in her crib with the a/c on the lowest setting.  She woke up about an hour later just screaming.  It's a really small room and the a/c was too powerful for it.  She was only wearing a onesie and her skin was so cold.

I bathe my baby every 5-6 days.

  • Also have clipped his skin while doing his nails. Another time he was laying on me all happy & peaceful, I went to scratch my face & my nail ended up hitting him leaving a scratch & he was so upset!
  • I was giving DD a bath in her tub in the sink and DH was standing there with the towel. I picked her up to give to him and banged her head on the cabinet above the sink. She screamed and I cried. I am paranoid about her head since the seizures she had when she was a newborn and I kept saying, Oh my god I hurt her head, I hurt her head. But she was fine like 2 minutes later, lol.

  • i was talking on my cell while holding on my shoulder and i bent down to pick up D and it slipped out and smacked him on the head. he shook it off and was fine but i was a mess for the rest of the day! :(
  • I put DD on the couch so I could go into the kitchen to make her bottle. I heard her start to cry so I went back into the living room and our dog had jumped on the couch over her. I dont think he stepped on her, but it scared the crap out of me...and her.

  • I pinched the underside of her arm when I was closing the snap on her bouncer chair. She screamed and gave me this look like, "I can't believe you did that!" She bled a little and the mark was there for 2 weeks. I felt horrible.

  • I was getting the infant carrier our of my car with my diaper bag on my shoulder... as soon as I grabbed it the diaper bag smashed him in the face. It didn't seem to phase him.

DH was holding him (not very well) and leaned over on the couch to pick up his computer... well DS fell about a foot and smashed his head off the computer. He didn't make a peep and kept on sleeping so DH started freaked because he thought he knocked him out. lol. But he was fine. The kid sleeps like rock.

  • Two instances:

    1) I cut her toe pretty bad the first time I was trimming her toenails! She screamed for a minute or so and then was fine. I on the other hand was convinced she would never stop bleeding.

    2) I was changing her diaper once in the living room on the foot rest of our recliner (did this all the time when she was very little and could still fit on there). I dropped something and was an idiot and went to pick it up and when I leaned over my feet pushed the foot rest down...with DD on it! Luckily I grabbed her before she hit the floor so she was just kind of jerked downward for a millisecond...she didn't even realize it. Didn't cry...and this is the kid who would cry if you looked at her the wrong way back then. So I didn't feel too bad...but I stopped changing her there!

  • I dropped his bottle bag on his head. Its heavy. And I was paranoid that I messed up his soft spot.

DH did that in the hospital the first time he cut her nails! Poor baby.. and he also accidentally hit her head with the remote. Luckily she was asleep and didn't wake up but I still felt horrible.

We were watching a movie one night and DH had to turn the surround sound way up for the DVD because it played really quiet. So when we switched it back to the tv, we forgot it was turned up full blast and it was LOUD. Poor DD got a blank shocked look on her face, then started crying. I felt sooo bad for her! If it hurt my ears I know it had to hurt her little ears. :(

  • When he was really little and I walked around with him cradled in my arms, I bumped his poor little head on the sides of doorways a handful of times before I finally got the hang of how much "wider" he made me when we were walking around.  He never cried, but I still felt awful.

  • When she was about 2 weeks old we were at the IL's and I was holding her and trying to get her situated for a picture with her Easter present.  She threw her head to the one side and since I wasn't holding her well, whacked it on the rocking chair.  I cried right along with her, right in front of everyone...

I did this after church one day! I felt horrible when I went to get her out and saw my mistake!

  • I was changing LO's poopy diaper and when using the wipe I accidentally cut him right by his butt hole with my nail.  It looked awful. I learned that the skin is very tender down there...doesn't take much to cut into it.  It healed really quick though, about a day.  Must not have been as bad as it looked.

  • I was trying to get him out of his carseat one day when he was very new and I felt like he was stuck on something so I am looking down by his feet trying to figure it out and then i realize OH ITS HIS FREAKING HEAD!! It was bumping into the handles because I had forgotten to recline it first causing me to be unableto get him out... ughhhh. He didnt even wake up but I was sure I had crushed his brain or somethign equally horrid.
  • When he was in the NICU, I ripped out his IV when I was trying to change his clothes. :(
  • I was sitting on the bed with him in my lap, and realized he was peeing out the side of his diaper on me. I freaked, and rolled him off me onto the bed. He wasn't hurt, but he looked SO SHOCKED for a second and then burst into tears. I felt so bad, because even though I've accidentally elbowed him in the head etc. before, this time it seemed like I actually hurt his feelings.

    LOL at hurting his feelings.

    You're too cute.

  • this was coming HOME from the hospital, we had never used a car seat before and had no clue how the straps should be. We put her in and DH pulled the strap to tighten it...OMG we pulled it so hard her little arms and legs shot STRAIGHT OUT... she looked so uncomfortable and I was all pannicked and couldn't find the button to loosen the straps.

I did this too. I felt sooo bad. Not to mention, it was right before a pedi appt and I was paranoid that she would think that we were abusing her.

  • I didn't really do this but the worse thing that has happened to LO is when she face planted right on my collarbone with her nose.  She looked up in shock and then started bawling and sneezing.  I was like "please don't bleed."  And she didn't thank God. Can you imagine a 3 month old with a broken nose?
  • At his first ped appt he was crying after getting his HepB shot.  I was crying too and got into the back seat to nurse him before leaving.  I was buckling him in and the chest buckle was up high and I clipped his little neck!  He let out a pain cry and I felt like the worst mother in the world that day.
