Name: Meg1031 (Megan)
EDD: October 31st, 2009
Type of BR:  Between modified to semi strict- I spend most of the day reclined in my recliner, lie down in bed once or twice a day for a bit, can go potty, shower daily (although that takes a lot out of me so I only do it every other day), and avoid going downstairs for anything.
Since when: 28 wks 4 days-Spent 5 1/2 days in hospital first
Reason: I went to local hospital with a "gut feeling" and a few more contractions than I had been having along with an aching like cramps and rectal pressure.  I had contractions every 4 minutes and a positive FFn with cervical shortening and funneling with some dilation.  Got transported to "mothership" hospital an hour away.  They switched the Mag to Nifedipine which I am tolerating "ok"- but still get really dizzy and weak a few times a day though BP is great- and the hot flashes are intense.  Got the betamethasone.

Name: MaggieB79 (Maggie)
EDD: October 30th
Type: STRICT
Since: 8/19
Reason: Pre-eclampsia.  Went from doing just fine to severe swelling, rapid weight gain, headache and high BP in 2 short days.  2 days of modified bed rest turned into strict bed rest indefinitely...

Name: FutureMrsPrestwood (Heather)
EDD:
October 10th (although dr. is saying now she won't let us go past 37 weeks so now its looking like we will have a September baby!)
Type:
Modified: no going out except for weekly hospital visits for NST and blood work and then another weekly visit with my OB. I'm allowed to "piddle" around the house (dr's words, not mine!) but am basically staying on the couch, off my feet 90% of my day.
Since:
8/17
Reason:
Elevated BP now has me diagnosed with gestational pre-hypertension. So far we are maintaing at an elevated (but not normal) BP with the hopes that it will not go up and we won't have to have strict bed rest or be admitted to the hospital.

Re: ~~Bed Rest Mama's Tuesday Check in!!~~

  • I had my growth scan this morning. This baby girl is BIG and measuring at 33 wks - which is 8 days ahead. Simply amazing, especially given the SUA. It does make some sense to me cause I think they have always been about a week off on my due date because I know when I conceived... but oh well... just glad she is big and healthy.  Also, GREAT NEWS - the fluid level in her kidneys is now at an acceptable level and is no longer of concern. Oh, and her weight was est. at 4 lb 10 oz.... Chunker!!!!

QOTD:  Have you had a baby shower, will the shower plans be any different because of bed rest?  What do you think of baby showers for baby #2 or more....

I had a shower for DS after he was born since he came at 27 wks. It was awesome. Most everything (bigger stuff) I got was gender neutral so I can use it all again. I did get a new car seat and a double stroller and sold me single travel system at a consignment sale. I will not be having another shower. I think it is not necessary, and a little tacky to have showers for subsequent babies. Unless there was a really long time span between them. I think the girls in my bunco group will do a little "sprinkle" for me which is like buying diapers and wipes, etc... that is nice. I actually have bought little to nothing for my baby girl - but will be shopping soon, since I know she is gonna be a big, healthy girl!

  • I didn't update last week so here is what happened then.....we went in for NST and a regular weekly Dr visit....everything looked good, my BP had gone down to 116, just 10 beats above normal, belly measured good and the baby passed the NST with no problems.  She tried to get a feel of the babys position and said she thought it was heads down and that I was feeling the bum next to my ribs.  A few minutes later she said "why don't we pop over to ultrasound and have a look"  As soon as she put the wand on my belly you could see it was a head, not a bum!!  Then she started measuring the AFI and I come in on the low side of normal.....not a happy camper. We were going to schedule to have an inversion done until we found out the risks of sending the baby in distress were 1 in 100....not good enough odds for me.  Soooooo.....we go back this Thursday for another ultrasound to check on the fluid level and get a weight estimate....last Thursday it was only 5lbs 4oz....not the high 6lber she thought I had in there.  And...if the baby hasn't turned we are setting up a date to have a section done.  On the other hand the good news is that I'm having the emergency cerclage taken out and will officially have beaten ALL odds with a fulltermer on Saturday!!  My DH and I are over the moon!!

QOTD:  I had my shower at 34 wks and played hooky to attend...I did just sit in a lounge chair with my feet up and everyone had to come to me so I wasn't that bad!!  I don't believe in second showers either, I agree Mrsjrmiller, a bit on the tacky side.  A "sprinkle" is such a great idea....everyone can use diapers and wipes and plus it's a fun way of getting to eat cake and hang out!!  Plus, people always buy things after the baby is born....no matter what number baby it is!!   Hope all the other BR mamas are doing well...I may be off as of this Thursday so I'll keep ya posted!

  • Good Morning!

Update: well i got a call from my doctors office yesterday and was told i failed the 1hr glucose, so i have to go on wednesday for my 3hr...wish me luck!  I also had a positive FFN, although it could have been a false positive due to blood in the sample.  Kinda stinks cuz a negative would have been even more reassurance that it is okay for me to be up and about a little more.

QOTD: i have not had my shower yet, and this is my first pregnancy.  our shower is scheduled for 9/12.  I'm very excited about it.  I already got permission from my OB to attend, so i don't think it will be compromised at all by bedrest.  i'll probably just have to play it by ear as far as how i feel and if i need to sit more or less.  I agree with you first two ladies....i don't think that people need to have a shower for subsequent children unless they are many many years apart.  Once you've had one shower, any subsequent ones are just like begging people to buy you more gifts....i don't know.

Hope everyone has a good day!

  • I go to the dr's today to find out more about my situation.  I guess they will tell me today if I am out of work for good and tell me more about testing, etc.  I have so many questions about all of this.

QOTD:  I had my shower on August 15th.  Funny, because I thought it was a bit early to have a shower, little did I know that I would be on bed rest just a few days later!  Even though this is my 2nd, my DD is 5 years old and we had already gotten rid of almost all of her baby stuff because we did not think we would have any more kids.  We were surprised, but then very happy once the shock wore off, to find out that I was pregnant earlier this year.  My friends and family knew that we were basically starting all over with this LO, so the shower was very appreciated.  Of course we got a ton of clothes, so I made a list yesterday of the essentials that we still need to get.  Might be sending my DH out to BRU to pick things up...

I am glad you got to have a shower - and the 5 yr difference is when I would consider another shower necessary - and not tacky!!!!

  • Update:  Had my Dr. appt yesterday - all looks fabulous - had a growth scan and Miss Lilly looks great and weighs about 4 pounds.  She is still frank breech.....

QOTD:  I had two showers - a friends shower and a family shower.  With my schedule and vacations, etc we actually had them earlier than the "normal".  I still ended up having my friends shower while in the hospital - they have a room in the l&d wing that actually has a little kitchenette attached and is pretty nice.  My second shower I was on br but got permission to go as long as I didn't drive and found a spot and stayed in that spot.  I spent the whole time in my Dad's lazy boy :)  Sprinkles are a good idea I think - and I have to say I agree with the pp with 2nd time showers.....

  • I had my shower a month ago, 4 days after I was put on BR. My OB gave me permission to attend.

I only think its tacky to have a 2nd shower if you're having the same sex that you already have. KWIM? My SIL had 2 boys in 3 years and had 2 showers...tacky. But if her 2nd had been a girl, I think that would have been okay...I just dont spend as much at the second shower as I do at the first.

  • Doctors appointment this morning went great! The baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead of schedule which is great for a prospective preemie and the HB was strong and solid. Still on bed rest, increased the frequency of the nifepedine (sp?) due to breakthru contractions, and unless I haul my booty back to L&D I won't be shipped to Seattle- WOO HOO!

QOTD:  Have you had a baby shower, will the shower plans be any different because of bed rest?  What do you think of baby showers for baby #2 or more....
I had a shower before I went on bed rest in June when I went down to Nashville for my brothers wedding with my side of the family and my in-laws did a mail-order-shower with their friends and family and we got gift cards from them. I haven't had anything from our friends here in Washington but some friends mentioned it earlier this month. I don't think I'll have a problem going to a shower if one is thrown as long as I don't have to do lead a step aerobics class with everyone. After the baby is born I'm thinking about having a "greeting party" where I invite people over to meet the baby and socialize a bit.

I have never heard of a sprinkle before but I LOVE that idea!

  • Good afternoon ladies.  No real update for me today other than breastfeeding class went well last night and I was even feeling well enough to pop up to my floor and say hello to everyone before we went home.  I really miss work!

QOTD:  Have you had a baby shower, will the shower plans be any different because of bed rest?  What do you think of baby showers for baby #2 or more....

My shower is scheduled for 9/12 and I got permission from my OB to attend.  As long as I sit in one spot, it's no different than being at home so I'm sure it will be fine.

This is not my first baby but my current "baby" is 15 years old so, needless to say, I'm starting from scratch.  I actually didn't think I was even going to have a shower so we'd started buying stuff a little at a time.  I'm really excited because things are very different from the last time I had a baby!

I have to agree, when babies are close together (like my first 3 in 4 years) repeat showers can be tacky.  I had one shower with my first then didn't have another until I had my 4th 6 years later... things tend to wear out after that many kids!  I agree with a PP who said a change in gender may warrent another shower and I also think that if another group (say co-workers who weren't around for the first) want to have a shower for someone, that's not tacky either.  If someone offers, why not take them up on it?  People want to celebrate with you so why not let them?  If you don't want the gifts or only want diapers/wipes then just specify that or change it to a meet and greet.  I only think it's truly tacky if one throws one's own shower.  I would feel REALLY uncomfortable doing that... like I was asking for stuff.

  • Update:  Was a little crampy this am- drank water, moved around alittle.  It stopped and hasn't returned, but I am conscious of any little difference today.  Last night my one dog and my cat were overly attentive to me- which is what they did before the PTL started.  I told my hubby my cat is bad juju- she is sweet, but when she gets all lovey I have issues:)

QOTD:  I don't think it is tacky to have a shower for an additional child- but the mom-to-be mustn't plan it.  That looks pretentious and greedy.  I do think that if people want to give gifts on thier own accord- they can and or should, but it isn't an expectation.

I think for us BR mamas- we should have pampering showers where people come over and do our hair, nails, and some brow waxing!  That would be quite welcome!

If we were having a boy- I would likely be having one.  I am one of those people who have a hard time getting rid of things- so we have nearly all of DDs stuff.  I have bought a few things- mostly Craigslist and second hand.  I did buy an expensive stroller because I cannot stand my Graco any more.  But- that was something we talked about since my DD was an infant.

Coworkers have asked what I need for baby- and it is mostly onsies, diapers, and burp cloths.  the stuff that really doesn't last through 2 kids much.  But- I am not formulating a list or anything.

  • I had my baby last week, on 8/20. ?She was 2 lbs, 3 oz. ?She's doing great in the NICU.. no ventilator, no oxygen, increased feedings and she's already back up to her birth weight.
