Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

how many years between children...just curious:)

How many years apart do you want your children to be? We are planning on about 4 years. What are your thoughts? No real pressing reason for this post, I'm just wondering what others are doing/have done and what you think. :) our DD is 21 months now, and she is our only one right now.

  • Ours will be 3 years apart. We want a little space, but not too much.
  • Loading the player...
  • DS1 and DS2 are 8 years apart.  DS2 and the next baby I would like to be 2-3 yrs apart.

  • I had originally thought 3 years and the way it would work best for us would make it closer to 3.5 years.  Dh told me last week that he thinks DS would be too old to be close friends with a new sibling.  I am all for them being close in age so we are rehtinking this.  I would love to be pregnant now and have them be 2.5 years apart.
  • probably 3-4. i think siblings close in age would be great, but i'd lose my mind.

  • hoping less than 2 years apart
  • DS and baby #2 will be two years apart.  I like that spacing.  Me and my siblings were all two years apart and we seem to be a little closer than my DH and his siblings who are 11 and 4 years apart.

We'll probably schedule #3 to be around 2 1/2 years apart.  I want a baby in the summertime rather than all winter babies.

  • Well, my situation isn't the same as most.  I have a daughter from a previous relationship.  She's 16 (yes, I'm old)...and Ben will be 18 months this week.  They're 14.5 years apart.
  • Our plan was 18-24 months apart would be ideal.

Well, I got PG the weekend of DD1's 1st birthday.  My due date was July 2nd - so they would have been 21 months apart or close.  Unfortunatley I miscarried at 11 weeks.  I got pregnant with DD2 a few months later and they are 26 months apart.  This was a good split too.  I then got PG right after I weened DD2 at 14 months.  However, again I miscarried.  DD would have been a big sister at 23 months.  So...  now DD2 is 20 months and *if* I get lucky this cycle, DD2 will be 28-29 months when she becomes a big sister.

Sorry, this has been so long, I felt an explanation was necessary!

  • Stupid nest/bump duplicated my post and I cannot delete it--- so I edited this one to tell you that your DD is beautiful.  I think 4 years would be good, since my older one is quite the helper and understands reason now too!  GL!

  • You mean you can plan these things????
  • We'd like around 3 years.  I don't think age makes much of a difference when it comes to the closeness of siblings.  DH is closer with his brother who is 6 years younger than him than to his brother who is 3 years younger than him.

  • Ours will be a little over 2 yrs apart.  I plan on having one more when the youngest is two.....then I am done.
  • Ours will be 18 months apart. If we go for #3, I'd like them to be about 2 years apart.
  • My two boys will be 23 months apart.

  • um, 20 months?

  • We are hoping for 2.5-3 years age difference.?

I think 2-2.5 yrs would be nice, too- but I am a teacher and the timing of that would be awful with the ?school year. so if it works how I want it to they would be 2yrs 9 months apart... or somewhere in that range!?

I know i could not handle 2 under 2- although long term I think it would be great, but am afraid I would truly lose my mind in the first 6 months of it. I don't want too much more than 3 years apart b/c I worry that it would be hard to find family things to do to please with a big age gap. We only plan on two kids.?

    ditto.  I wish.

  • dd1 and dd2 are 19.5 months apart and im hoping for another 2 under 2. id want less than 2 years between all the kids no matter how many we choose to have
  • At least 24mos between. We are TTC now :)
  • I'm hoping for 14 years or so.

    Jo can babysit.

  • Ds#1 & DS#2 are 6 years apart. (We were too young the 1st time around)

DS#2 & DD will be 20 months apart.

If, and that's a BIG IF, there is a baby #4, I wouldn't have it until at least 4 years from now.

  • We want our kids 2-3 years apart. DD will be 28 months when our second comes along, and I think that'll be a nice age difference.

  • We wanted #1&2 to be about 18mo apart (they are 17mo).  I would like 3-4 years between #2&3 and then another 18mo between #3&4.

    God help me. LOL

  • I think there are pros and cons to almost any age diff. but to me, anything over 5 years is more con and less pro. After that they are in totally diff. age groups, w/ diff. interests, in diff. schools, etc.

Personally, can see the appeal to anywhere from 2-4 years. I could never mentally handle 2 under 2 either, but I admire those who can and think it must be great once the kids are a bit older.

A friend of ours had their youngest when the oldest was 6. He said that it's fabulous because she's old enough to help and wants to, but not yet to that teenage stage of refusing to do family stuff.

  • we've always said about 2 years apart.

DD#1 and DD#2 will be 20 months apart.

If we go for a 3rd, we've decide we'd like them at least 3 years apart the next time ;)

  • I'd like them to be fairly close, but I know I would lose my mind!  We've discussed TTC our next one somewhere between DS 2nd and 3rd birthdays, which would put them around 3-4 years apart.
  • I wouldnt have minded a 2-3 year age gap. But our kids are 5 years apart and 15 months apart. Of the 2, I loved the 5 year age gap the best. It was so easy.
