if you dont have a ceiling fan are you getting a floor fan for LO's room?

I'm sure we've all heard fans reduce the risk of SIDS signficantly. We have a small room and will probably be moving in the next year or so and decided against a ceiling fan. I bought a floor/pedestal fan but even on low it seemed to blow so much air on the crib, i dont know which is the lesser of two evils. What are you doing if you dont have a ceiling fan in the nursery?

  • We aren't getting a fan...
  • Loading the player...
  • We were planning on a low pedestal fan as well...but if its too much trouble we will probably just buy a cheap ceiling fan.

  • DH installed a new ceiling fan in LO's room.  We did it for two reasons 1. we heard it can help reduce SIDS and 2. we just like ceiling fans in our bedrooms : )
  • We did a small floor fan until we installed our ceiling fan. Cfs can be cheap, so that's what we ended with. When DD is swaddled, she runs hot and the fan, pushing the air down made a huge difference.

Can you angle your floor fan so that it's not blowing directly into the crib? Maybe even aim it at the ceiling so that the air that's coming down is just what bounces off?

  • we put one in. they aren't expensive and you can remove then when you move.
  • I could try getting a smaller portable fan, that would blow less air, just not sure if it would circulate enough to help. The problem is, I'm finding fans are really hard to find now - they were seasonal and with fall on the way, stores clearanced them already and dont carry them anymore - ugh!
  • I would get a smaller table fan that oscilates.... trust me, the white noise is sooo soo helpful. It is a must have for my toddler and the new baby as well.

    GL!

  • We have a ceiling fan in the room already.

Also, its college move in time, so you may be able to find some fans now "dorm room sized"

  • I agree with the last post. Look in the dorm section at target or walmart, you should be able to find a small inexpensive fan there. I think that is was we will go with. I don't want to add installing a ceiling fan to DH already long to do list.

  • We bought a ceiling fan for the nursery months ago.  It is still sitting in the box on the floor, but we have all intentions of installing before LO gets here.
