i was on msn and there having a poll on Michelle Obama's Attire.....im like wow is it really that important that she's wearing shorts like other humans?
i care more about wut's in apple juicethen what she's wearing should'nt we be worried about her and her husbands actions and decisions. and she actually lookreally cute and still very classy and momish....i could see if she was dresses like paris hilton then there's a problem......i think pple r so enraged that there are black pple in the "white house" that they will find anything to talk bad about next thing you
know there gonna be saying OMG MICHELLE OBAMA'S FEET ARE SO BIG LET'S TAKE A POLL ON WHETHER ITS
APPROPRIATE FOR THE FIRST LADY TO HAVE BIG FEET OR NOT!
IT MAKES ME VERY DISSAPOINTED TO EVEN SAY IM AMERICAN!
Re: WTF?.........just lemme vent!
I'm sure it was just a senseless poll designed to give people who are bored something to do.
Simmer down.
Yikes! Calm down. Sure it is sexist, but people have always talked about the First Lady's clothing.
Not racist.
WOW! Did you seriously just read the race card into an article written by people with too much time on their hands about shorts? I think you are way to overly-sensitive about this issue, and really need to calm down about this!
Nowhere did the article mention anything about race, and it really makes me mad when people try to blame other people's actions based on whether they are white, black, blue, purple, or pink. They were bored and had nothing better to do. Let's not read WAAAAYYYYYY too much into an article, mmkay?
This.
It really drives me crazy when people try to blame everything on someone's race. Who cares what her race is? It was a stupid poll. I can promise there were plenty of stupid polls and stupid things said about Laura Bush... I wouldn't say they were said because she is Caucasian AT ALL.
I agree with PP, Michelle Obama has been praised for her classy fashion sense in the past, so people were just trying to pick on this incident because she isn't all dressed up.
AGAIN THAT'S HOW I FEEL!
Wow

Can I ask you a question? Do you feel like everything has to do with race in every situation (for Hispanics, African Americans, Caucasians and others) or only when it involves African Americans?
I am not racist myself and know most people I know are not racist. I teach and when it comes to helping my students I could care less what their race is (and I do have students from many backgrounds). So for me, everything does not center around a person's race, religion or sexual orientation.
Apparently in the real world there is no such thing as grammar and spelling.
HAHAHAHA I am literally laughing out loud right now! I live in New Orleans, where the population is 68% black, and 32% white/latino/asian, etc. 90% of the politicians are black, and blacks are the MAJORITY in NOLA.
So when I say it literally kills me when people pull the race card, i'm not kidding. We deal with it all day everyday down here.
Not everything has to do with race, and when people have that attitude, it's no wonder there are so many sections of the country where people of different races really cannot get along.
It is not about race, it is about the content of a person's character, and how morally and ethically they live their life. The color of their skin doesn't matter if they have a good heart and life their life the best they can.
I think "wow" is an?understatement...
totally this
I think You need to calm it down. I'm also African American and understand that there's still many race issues that need to be addressed and dealt with in today?s society but how do you expect everyone else to get past it if YOU'RE making an unofficial fashion poll a race issue?
Please focus on your grammar and refrain from making this non-issue a racial one.
So somewhere in New Orleans is an example of what you are talking about? The thing is- everywhere is not that way... so everyone, everywhere in the U.S. does not always make everything about race. In some places people might. Not everywhere.

TAKE A BREATH WOMAN. And please stop typing like you are in grade 5. If you don't know how to spell and type with proper grammar, please don't type anything at all.
And the flucking race card. Are you serious with that shiit?
Ok, seriously? I'm a professor who specializes in stratification (including racial/ethnic stratification) for a primarily black audience. It makes me upset when a few people try to tie seemingly unrelated issues to race because it cheapens (and downplays) all of the serious racial issues we have in the U.S.
It's like me saying, "I was discriminated against because I'm a woman and we only had 3 stalls in the bathroom, just like the men, but everyone knows it takes us longer to pee!" Ummm...ok, but whining about that makes people take REAL women's issues (like earning 81 cents on the dollar, doing the vast majority of the second shift labor even if we work full time, too, and being the overwhelming victims of partner violence) less seriously.
Even if, in your own head, this is only because Michelle Obama is black, is this really the hill you want to die on?
Then get the hell out of here! Seriously! That way you don't have to say you're an American. Oh, and while you're at it, take all the other people who try to pull the race card with you
Well said, and I couldn't agree more!
As I recall, Laura Bush was criticized for wearing the same dress as another guest at her holiday party. Another time she was given grief because she wore a pants suit (or something too casual) to an important meeting with an international representative. Let me guess... it was because she's black, right? Oh wait...
I get tired of people who always try to play the race card. I will never understand why some people search for things to complain about or walk around feeling sorry for themselves for reasons that make absolutely no sense. Welcome to year 2009. Might want to catch up with the progression.

For whatever reason it is like a tradition in this country to pay close attention to the First Lady's attire.
I have a feeling that you would probably pull the race card if they weren't talking about what Michelle Obama was wearing just like they have with every other First Lady..
EDIT: ZAngel, I really enjoyed your wedding video on your homepage.. Your flower girl was too adorable. What is the name of the song?
New Orleans is majority African American. I try not to judge people based on looks, but I find I get treated a bit differently because I am white.
While I appreciate you're just venting over such a big deal being made about the First Lady wearing shorts (which I find completely okay)...it has fhak all to do with race! They would have made the same comment about ANY First Lady in shorts.
Please, don't get it twisted.
If Americans were so against having black people in the White House, then I venture to think Obama would not have won the election.
This.
I saw this yesterday so ridiculous. She looked adorable in her mom shorts. Plus what is she suppose to go hiking in the middle of summer in pants. Who the eff would do that!
People need to get over it he is our president and she is the first lady geez.
welll.. you could always live somewhere else. would you like me to buy you a plane ticket somewhere?
this is the single most amusing post i've read all week.
and that's saying a LOT.
While I do agree with you that there are a lot of racial issues still in this country that many people don't realize or pretend not to notice, I definitely don't think the criticism of Michelle Obama's shorts was a racial thing. They just like to criticize the first ladies. People were bored and had nothing better to do.
Our country has come a long way in regards to race and that is something that I am proud of.

Wow - how did I miss this post earlier today?
You probably aren't even old enough to remember the critcism Hilary got for her haircuts. Or the criticism poor Chelsea got as a child for the very awkward stages of puberty she went through in the public eye.
So if they are picking on Michelle because she's black, why were they picking on Laura, Hilary, and Chelsea?
Seriously grow up. Racism is still a problem in this country, but it sure as hell is not the reason why we are talking about what Michelle wears.
This!
Racial issues DO still exist, but not every remark about our President or his wife is racially based. By claiming everything is racially motivated, even when it obviously is not, *you* are the one turning this into a racial attack!
Oh, please.
::LittleMamaB makes a fart noise with her hand::
Everything does not have everything to do with race, and you are living in a very sad world if it does. Maybe it's time for YOU to branch out a bit.
