I am not sure if you know this or not. There is a whole wing at the American History Smithsonian dedicated to the past and present First Ladies attire.It is supposed to mark trends in fashion since they are the first lady and the pioneer at the time for our country.  

It is an old past time and historic tradition. In the old days there were ladies magazines dedicated to this and woman would follow suit. I think a trip to the museum would help you understand why this is such a big cultural discussion topic in our country. Some things are historic and are social norms of our culture and society.

I think we should all be proud Michelle is such a classy pioneer and her taste is classy.

Anyways that is why people are so hung up on what she wears etc. it is a century old topic with a whole wing in a national museum (which is free to every citizen to visit I might add).
