High-Risk Pregnancy

When is your doctor inducing and why?

I have both high BP and GD.  The last we spoke, I will be induced at 39 weeks or before due to BP - definitely will not go to 40 weeks.  I also read that gals with GD get induced at 37 weeks.

So, are you being induced and if you are when and why?

Re: When is your doctor inducing and why?

  • i've got GD and am on insulin 4x a day...fun!  my dr has said that i definitely won't go to 40 weeks and something about 39 weeks but i don't know if that means induction or not - i'm asking about that on friday.  last week they said hopefully i will go early on my own.  at last check baby wasn't a giant so i don't think they'll get me at 37 weeks (hope not bc i am NOT ready for him to be here in less than 2 weeks!!)

  • 38-39 weeks.  Lovenox makes it "hostile" for baby to be in me longer then necessary and clotting risk out weighs benefits of the last couple weeks.  Last time I was induced at 39 weeks and umbilical cord had almost completely disintegrated and placenta abrupted during labor.  This time I'll have special u/s to moitor flow of blood and doctor is talking about going a week earlier this time depending on results.
  • I will have a scheduled c/s and have not broached the topic with my docs yet. At the initial MFM consult they told me they did not think I would make it to 34 weeks and I am only 3 weeks away. After saying that they said that if I did and things were going well we would just play it by ear. Although I have dreams of being off bed rest and being outside of my house, I am in no hurry. I would be super proud of myself if I could get to 37 weeks, that is 10 weeks after I had DS!!! I just want to take my baby home with me!
  • Right now they have me scheduled for a c/s at 39 weeks... but they said that may change and I possibly will be scheduled earlier, depending on how I react to the insulin treatment and all that.  but for now, 39 weeks. :)
  • I have one induction date scheduled for 37w6d and another for 38w3d, depending on how my BP is acting. I have PIH.

  • I "may" be induced at 36w 5d for high BP.  I'm having an amnio on Friday to check for lung maturity. If it comes back positive, the induction will begin on Sunday night.
  • I'm scheduled to be induced tomorrow - 38 weeks exact for BP and baby measuring big (not GD related). ?
  • We have a scheduled c-section at either 32 weeks or 36 weeks based on the results of our cordocentesis. If the platelet count is above 50000 I will go to 36 weeks if its below they will take him at 32 weeks, but definitely will not be going past 36 weeks for the fear of going into labor on my own.
  • OB scheduled induction for 9/1 - I'll be 38w1d for insulin-dependent GD (and he also thinks this baby is bigger than my last one - DS #1 was 8lbs 13oz).

  • My perinatal Dr suggested I be induced as early as 37 weeks because of my factor V and being on lovenox. The Lovenox takes 72 hrs to get out of your system so by inducing they can plan ahead and I'll stop the lovenox in time to avoid hemorrhaging with delivery and possibly still be able to get an epidural.

I have to go back in a week for another US because they are concerned LO might have IUGR and not growing adequately. If that's the case then they might induce earlier. I guess we just have to wait and see.

  • I will be induced at 38 weeks, unless my water breaks sooner, but hopefully it won't. I have been on bed rest since 29 weeks both in the hospital and at home for preterm labor and an incompetent cervix. I'm on Procardia and Terbutaline now and will most likely stop it sometime next weekend, after I hit 37 weeks. I am already 3cm dilated, 90% effaced, and have contractions even though I'm on the meds. I've been treated for high blood pressure for 3.5 years now, so pre-eclampsia is also a concern, especially after 38 weeks. Baby is also larger than normal at this point, and very healthy!! :) So my OB doesn't want me to stay pregnant much past 38 weeks for all of those reasons.
