High-Risk Pregnancy

Hard appointment yesterday...

So, I had my follow up for my GD, to check my numbers and see where everything was going... the doctors decided to put me on insulin twice a day.  I am so frustrated that I don't even know where to begin... I know it isn't my fault, but I feel like I failed my LO, even though I did everything I could to avoid being on insulin.  My other two pregnancies were nothing like this, so it was definately harder to handle... It was a very emotional day!  Hope everyone else had a better Monday than me! :)

Re: Hard appointment yesterday...

  • I am sorry but you know this is not your fault. Just try to stay positive and do the insulin twice a day, knowing you are doing what is best for your baby! Hang in there!!!

  • what were your typical numbers?  My appointment is Thursday and I am worried I am going to have the same fate no matter how hard I am trying!

  • Sorry you had a hard time...I went through that at 12 weeks. I have been on insulin since then and there is light at the end of the tunnel as you approch 36+ weeks your body requries less insulin so you might be off of it on no time. Also the insulin needle hurts less then the finger stick.

    GL!

  • i'm so sorry you had a bad day yesterday.  I don't have GD (yet....i have my 1hr glucose sat).  But i have had other stuff going on and am on bedrest, so i've definitely had some days where i've felt so defeated.  Just keep on telling yourself that you are doing what is best for your baby and remember that everything that happens is happening for a reason and is out of your control   Hang in there and I hope you have a better day today!
  • Been there, felt that way.  I felt like a TOTAL failure when I couldn't diet-control my GD anymore and was put on insulin.  I'm on NPH at night - and it's not been as bad as I had anticipated.  Don't feel bad for being emotional - it's completely normal!  But this is NOT your fault - and by doing the insulin shots, you ARE doing what's right for your health and your baby's health.  Hang in there sweetie!  ((HUGS))

My fasting numbers were between 116 and 127, and my other numbers would range from 105 to 178, depending on the meal and what I ate, and that was testing 2 hours after I ate.  I have been following this diet to a T and the docs said that it isn't my fault, it is just my hormones and the way this pregnancy is this time around.  I was just called my the doc's office and apparently now I have to go for NST's twice a week ... not discussed with me at my appointment yesterday!  Good luck with yours, hopefully you wont have to have the insulin...

My numbers are about the same as yours were.  My fasting ranges from 99-120 and my after meals are 115-155.  I am controlling my food and usually eat less carbs than reccomended on the diet so there is nothing else I can do!  We'll see on Thursday!
