6 weeks old-How many ounces?

How many ounces of breast milk does your LO eat at one feeding?  I plan on pumping so others can give bottles to my LO, but I'm unsure of about how much for one feeding.

Re: 6 weeks old-How many ounces?

  • I would start with 2 ounces and have another ounce or two in reserve to add to the bottle if she wants more.

  • Now that she is used to bottles DD will take about 4 oz. I agree with PP though. She was picky about taking the bottle at first so I started with 2 oz and would refill it if she was having a good day.
  • DD eats 3oz from a bottle.  Any more and she spits it up and any less and she gets mad!

  • At 6wks, DD took about 3-3.5oz. Now she takes closer to 4oz.
  • Go to kellymom.com--there is a calculator for how much your baby should be eating at each feeding.  I think it's 24 oz per day, so you divide that my the # of times she eats to determine how much she needs each time.  Ex: if you feed 8x per day, it would be 3oz per feeding approx.

  • Thanks so much. For some reason, I thought it was going to be a lot more!
