We did Ferber, not CIO, and he was 6 months. But he cried for about 43 minutes on and off the first night, 12 min the 2nd night, 3 min the 3rd, and with a few exceptions he has gone to bed awake without a whimper since then.
Only a few minutes, but they've never had much trouble going to bed, its waking up at night that DS struggled with. One night he cried for two HOURS until I finally fed him, but that only happened once and I really think he was hungry. After that it's only been a few minutes.
We did Ferber at 4.5 months. All tolled, he cried for an hour - but that was off and on, mostly fussing, with us going in at increments per Feber. Longest he ever wailed was 10 minutes.

This is almost identical to how things went for us whenever we did try CIO (if that's really what we did).
I didn't do much reading on it or try any books because Harris was already a great sleeper and didn't need any "sleep training," but once he got to a point where I knew he didn't need anything (not hungry, dirty, etc), we decided to try letting him go a little since we knew he was tired and could tell when the cry changed if something was really wrong (flipped over and couldn't get back, painful trapped burp, etc.). A couple nights of letting him cry lasted 45 minutes off and on, but they weren't consecutive nights. Then it was 10-15 minutes, then 7. Most nights (even before the 45 minute nights) he will go to bed awake without a whimper. Sometimes he'll start crying after he's been in bed 10 minutes, but the crying is over after 30 seconds or so. Those times are weird and I don't get it, but he puts himself back to sleep. One night DH was worried something was really wrong, so he went to check and the crying turned off like a light-switch the moment he got ready to open the door. Everything was fine and Harris was asleep.
So I don't know if I really helped at all, since I don't really know that we did any Ferber or CIO. But basically of the nights where we did let him cry, the length got shorter each time.

And it only took us 2 nights! We were lucky.
