Friend registered at BRU-Help

I have a friends shower next weekend and she is registered at BRU and there isnt one near by to me.  I can look at her registry online to see what she wants and possibly get something at Target or Walmart (those stores are closer to me) but how would she and others know that something has been purchased? Is there any way to show it purchased without acutally buying it from the store or online?  Sounds like a no, but thought I'd ask.

Re: Friend registered at BRU-Help

  • Maybe call the store and ask them to check it off the list? Maybe even say a little white lie and say you bought it from their store but forgot to give them the registry number... I don't know...
  • Loading the player...
  • Could you call her mom and let her know.  My aunt bought my bottles from somewhere other than BRU and my mom logged onto my account and marked them as bought...of course this would only work if her mom can access her registry.

  • I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure... but maybe you could call BRU and they might be able to check it off her registry as purchased??

If not, I'd still go ahead and get it at Target (or wherever is convenient for you) and just be sure to get a gift reciept in case there are duplicates.  Another option would be to just purchase it online at BRU and have them ship it to her house... then at the shower just give her a card with a photo of the item and say that it's on it's way.

  • Who is running her shower? Perhaps they have access to her registry? My Mom is able to log into mine to make sure things don't go out of stock and to make deletions like that. Maybe she has someone who is also doing that?

  • She (or someone) can go in and mark it off the registry, and if you have the item number, you can often call and say you purchased the item but forgot to have it marked off at the register and they'll fix it.

But there is always a possibility of duplicates, so be sure to include gift receipts to facilitate an easy return.

  • I would just be sure to provide a gift receipt. That way if someone did buy it she is at least able to return one without any issues. This happened several times with my bridal registry and it worked out well.

  • Instead of a gift receipt maybe you could pay cash and give her the original.  That way if she gets a duplicate she can get cash for your gift and will be able to use it anywhere.

  • Is there a Toys'R'Us near you? I'm pretty sure you can print the registry out there, too. Although they don't have a lot of the stuff BRU carries, you might be able to find something.
  • I had a friend who regestered at BRU and when I went to buy the bumbo (what I wanted to buy) they were going through a period where they were switching inventories or something and were going to be out of the color that she wanted.  I ended up calling her and saying that I really wanted to buy that Item and asked her if it would be ok to buy it at Target (and I had to buy a different color because it was discontinued.)  She was not upset because she still wanted that item and she wouldn't have been able to get it if I had not asked...

  • I've actually purchased things at different stores than a registry quite often for one reason or another.  If you're sure you're getting the same item, just buy it at the Target or Walmart and then call the original store.  You can tell them the registry # offline & tell them you forgot to take the registry with you to the register when you bought the item.  They can mark it bought over the phone.

ETA:  Also, if there is a Toys R Us by you, they sometimes carry the registry items as well.
