Drinking from straw

I posted earlier about maybe switching to sippy cups w/straw for DD.  For those whose LO's use them...do you just give it to them and they just know how to suck the liquid out or do you need to teach them with a regular straw?

    Ds quickly figured out how to use it.  No teaching needed.  He did it once accidentally and it was a go from there.

    My DD figured it out on her own too.  It took a couple of tried before she really got the hang of it but eventually she did.

    DD wasn't getting the hang of a regular sippy cup, one day her older cousin was here and she crawled over, grabbed his straw sippy and sucked on it, once she got juice she just kept sucking away. We went out and bought the same sippy cups as my nephew and she's been drinking from them ever since, no "teaching" required, but she probably copied what her cousin did.

    My DD used hers for the first time today.  We have the Nuby straw cup with the handles.  I think that she surprised herself but kept sucking once she got the water out.  We had tries other times before to introduce the straw but she just finally figured it out.
