Anybody's toddler have leg cramps/pain?

This morning I took my son to the Dr. because everytime he'd walk his left leg would give out on him and he'd cry.  He showed me that it was his calf hurting, not the knee or ankle.  Nothing is swollen, bruised, etc.  Do you think it could be a cramp?   I assumed that his leg was asleep at first, but it kept bothering him to the point that he wouldn't walk.  The Dr. said nothing was wrong that he could find.  Jake is fine as long as he's not putting weight on it.  Any advice?

  • My 3yr old has been doing this for an entire year. He's almost 4 now.  He'd complain of his leg aching, sometimes his knee, sometimes his calf or thigh.  It's rarely to the point where he just drops and can't walk...he does this but I think its an act.  The doctor told us growing pains.  He kept doing it and I was starting to get paranoid so I asked to get his legs x-rayed. The results came back normal.  He still complains and sometimes I still wonder but I am hoping it is just growing pains.

  • DD complains off and on that her legs hurt.  Sometimes I think it's the position she was sitting in.  Other times I think it's probably a growth spurt.  It's usually her hamstrings that bother her.

She's never in enough pain that she can't walk.

I wonder if he pulled a muscle somehow.

  • My oldest also complains regularly about leg pain and at least 2-3 times a week wakes up in the night with cramps in her lower leg or feet.  Our pedi. chalks it up to growing pains.  Usually if we rub her legs/feet it seems to help.
