used car seat that have been in an accident

If a car seat was in a car accident -like a pumpkin seat and base- wouldn't it be easy to see the stress points in the plastic?

    Maybe, maybe not. It's just not worth it to find out the hard way, though! A lot of damage done to seats may never be visible, but it's there.

    Not necessarily. The plastic can be weaker in certain spots, but not cracked or visibly weaker. Just not a risk I'd be willing to take.

    I've never bought a used one, nor do I plan to. I was just curious...I was searching Craigslist and I see lots of "perfect condition" or "accident free" and I was wonder-there's really no way to check that right?

    I loaned mine to a friend of mine, and while it was never in an accident (she says) some of the grey plastic had turned white and I figured that meant it was stressed. (yes, I threw it away...)

    I was in an accident last fall and DD wasn't even IN the car. I still made the insurance company replace the car seat.
