used car seat that have been in an accident

If a car seat was in a car accident -like a pumpkin seat and base- wouldn't it be easy to see the stress points in the plastic?

Re: used car seat that have been in an accident

  • Maybe, maybe not. It's just not worth it to find out the hard way, though! A lot of damage done to seats may never be visible, but it's there.

  • Not necessarily. The plastic can be weaker in certain spots, but not cracked or visibly weaker. Just not a risk I'd be willing to take.

  • Nope. ?When in doubt, toss it out.
  • I've never bought a used one, nor do I plan to. I was just curious...I was searching Craigslist and I see lots of "perfect condition" or "accident free" and I was wonder-there's really no way to check that right?

I loaned mine to a friend of mine, and while it was never in an accident (she says) some of the grey plastic had turned white and I figured that meant it was stressed. (yes, I threw it away...)

  • I was in an accident last fall and DD wasn't even IN the car. I still made the insurance company replace the car seat.
