My definition of STTN is not 6 hours

I hate that the "clinical" definition of STTN is 6 hours. I think that is crap. My defintion of STTN is goes to bed between 7-8 and doesn't wake up until morning. I know some of the kids on here do that and I would pay thousands of dollars for that to happen!!

ok, back to my glass of wine.

Re: My definition of STTN is not 6 hours

  • ITA especially since most LOs go down fairly early....it still makes for tired mommys when they are waking up in the middle of the night!

  • Agreed. For instance, my baby went to bed at 7 last night and woke up at 3:30. That is not STTN as far as I am concerned. STTN is when she would go down at 7 and wake up at 6 or 7am. Also known as: the good ole days.

  • I agree totally.  Although DS doesn't go down until 9pm or so normally.

  • Oh...I look forward to 6 hours.
  • I agree. Last week DS started STTN by my definition 7p bedtime and 6a wakeup. This week he has done it about every other night, on the off nights he has been getting up at 1a and then going back down until 8a. Still not bad for me though ;-) DH does the overnight if there is one. Last night he wanted to eat at 9pm after going to bed at 7pm - I was fearful it was going to be a long night but then he went back down until 7a.

I do think though, that the key is allowing them to learn to go to sleep still drowsy but not completely out when you put them in the crib and also allowing them to learn how to put themselves back to sleep (as in allowing fuss and allowing 3-5 min of crying before soothing - but we never make it to the soothing part because he is out after that). Nights that I put him down when he is full out, are the nights that he has trouble staying down. I think they just wake up and get confused because that isn't where they remember going to sleep.
