Re post from third tri-bedrest and baby shower

Alrighty girls. I need some advise. I am thinking I won't be taken off bed rest for a while (if at all). I am allowed to go from the bed to the couch with bathroom breaks. The church is the supposed to have a shower for us next sunday. I'm thinking I should go ahead and ask them to cancel it. My mil thinks I should wait until I go back to the dr next friday, or offer to let them have it at our house ( about a mile and a half from the church) I just don't feel like that is enough notice to give the ladies who organize the shower. Dh grew up in that church, and he seems to think it would be ok if just he went. That seems a little strange to me too. What do y'all think? My gut tells me to cancel. I'm really new to the bed rest thing.

    When and why did you get put on?

    You are only 32 weeks so I doubt you will get taken off before 36.  I'd go with your gut and cancel because it would suck to cancel a day or two before - there will probably be food already purchased, etc.

    we had one shower that got moved to our house and that worked great. another shower was hosted the day after DS was born since he came early. instead of cancelling, they still had the shower. MIL opened the gifts so the women could all ooo and aaaah over them and then put them back in the bags for us to open at home and that worked nicely too.

    and at another shower it was close to home so i just went. your dr might let you off bedrest for a few hours depending on what its for. you could call the office instead of waiting to find out so you have more notice for the organizers.

    I went to the hospital a week ago monday with high abdomen pain. Come to find out I was 1cm dilated and 50% effased (sp?). I was having contractions but couldn't feel them. I took procardia and that made the contractions stop later that evening. They sent me home the next day on bed rest. I had a cervical length scan yesterday and it was 1.8 cm (I was told it should be 3 - 3.5). They didn't do an internal so I don't know if I have made any other progress.

    I think it depends on how well your DH knows the group throwing the shower.  My family still had my baby shower when I was on bedrest and DH went in my place.  He actually had a really good time and everyone was happy to see him.  Maybe speak to the women throwing it and mention the idea of possibly having DH go in your place and see how they feel about it.  I was slightly against it in the beginning also bc it seemed wierd to me, but it turned out fine.  They even recorded it so I could watch it when DH got home :)

    Oh, don't cancel it - with or without you there I think it will be something you enjoy. If you think the ladies would not mind and it would not stress you out - switch it to your house. If you think that is too much trouble, have yoru DH go. Church ladies will find that to be super cute and will flood him with wonderful daddy-to-be attention. I like the idea of it being recorded for you to watch later. I think he could even call you and put you on speaker to tell all the ladies hello, thanks, etc... then make sure he brings you a nice piece of cake and you two will have fun reopening the gifts when he gets home. Make sure his mom or some female that he is very comfortable is there to make sure he can handle all the ladies... I think it would be super cute!!!  Good luck and have fun!!!

    Postpone it until baby is here.  Have it then when you have all the trauma behind you and can enjoy it.  The planners will understand.

    Coming from a close knit church family, I think it would totally be great if your DH went.  I love the PP idea of putting you on speaker phone so you can hear what is going on... Good luck!
