Mom's who BF more than 1 DC

Hoping that someone can give me a  positive story!

When my milk came in with DD, my right boob got super engorged.  It ended up not producing very much milk and I was always lop-sided.  It was very frustrating, I tried lots of things.  I had to pump at work and it was stressful because I was always 'just' keeping up.  I ended up taking domperidone, which helped a bit, but I was never 'plentiful'.

Did anyone have any trouble with #1 and lots of milk with #2?

    Congrats on your new ticker!

Sorry, I don't have any motivating advice. If nothing else, I've had a harder time with #2, but just because she is a different type of baby. She doesn't suck/eat for comfort, which has compromised my supply.

Hopefully you will get a great BFer the second time around! Congrats, so happy for you1

  • Thanks!

DD was a great BFer, she was sucking right away at the hospital, ate great, and everything.  It was all me, or shall I say 'righty' that couldn't carry the weight.

I had an average milk supply with #1.  With #2, I had an oversupply, to the point that I thought he was dairy sensitive (when he really wasn't) and had to consult a LC to figure out what was going on.

Also, my right side never produced as much as my left , especially when pumping.  With #2, I still coudn't get as much pumping on that side as the left, but DS always choked on the excess milk that I was producing so I know it was better this time around.

I don't know what made the difference, but some things that were different between the two were that I was able to nurse #2 w/i a few minutes of birth, which I didn't do with #1.  Also, nursing #2 was never, ever painful and it was for the first 6 weeks with #1.  I stressed about the constant cluster feeding at night w/ #1 and didn't realize it was normal.  With #1, I just went with it and nursed him all evening that first month or so.  None of things may have made a difference, but I just thought I'd mention them!

  • I had major supply issues with #1 (my milk never "came in", and when I weaned 3 months later I had no problems) but with #2 I had MUCH more (my milk came in in 2 days and I always sprayed at let down)...unfortunately, still not enough, but a LOT more.
  • My milk did come in a couple of days sooner with my second child. His latch was like a freaking bear trap, so nursing him was more painful than with DD, but I didn't have any supply issues with him at all compared to DD.
