Hello all, I'm new here. I'm wondering if anyone here has anything similar to what I have?
I was diagnosed with tachycardia (fast heart) about 10 years ago and was placed on metoprolol. I've had occasional moments where I passed out in the past, but now that I am pregnant it has gotten worse. My heart beats as fast as my lil one (and that is with meds)! Anyway, I have fainted twice the past few weeks after an episode of my heart racing. Now I'm told that I will have to have ablation surgery on my heart after the baby is born and I'm now considered high risk. Cardiologist concerned about 3rd trimester and delivery. I most likely will need a c/s too. I have my level 2 u/s in a few weeks. If I faint one more time, I will be placed on bed rest. I'm only 15 wks! Talk about a bummer doctors appointment!
Anyone with something similar or on metoprolol?
Re: Joining your club :-( Heart problems
Not to make that sound lightly at all...but I am glad it doesn't seem to have any other effects on the baby. I hope you can make it far and then schedule a c/s so LO arrives safe and sound and you are monitored closely. I'm sure it's a bummer to know this far in advance you will be having a c/s but hang in there. Can I ask what you do in the hospital? I also work in a hospital, actually in the NICU. I haven't been there since 31 weeks though when I was placed on bedrest. I can't say I miss working but I do miss my friends!
hi-I've never posted on this board before, but saw your heart related post so I figured that I would respond. I also am on metoprolol to help with tachycardia. I had open heart surgery at 3 months and ever since I got pg, I've been noticing more bouts with tachycardia. I knew going into it that my valve would need to be replaced at sometime, but my Cardio is now saying that I may need a defibrillator implanted about 6 months after the baby is born as well.
I haven't gotten to the point that you have in terms of passing out, but I do get the racing of the heart which is very unnerving! Since I started on Metoprolol, the tachycardia has been a little better but not much. It is not sustained which is good and at this point my doctor is still saying a vaginal birth is ok. I have a hard time with this because I do notice when I start to strain myself physically I get more episodes....I guess we'll see what happens. I'm sorry I don't have much advice, but wanted to say GL!!
