Glass Baby Food Jars?!

Can you use them for feeding baby out of with homemade baby food?

Here's my plan...buy fruit, veggies, etc., cook and puree them, freeze them in silicon ice cube trays, pop out and put in ziploc bags, then use...

My question is about the last step. Can we put it in glass baby food jars for on the go, storage, etc? I know they make plastic ones but

A - I feel more comfortable microwaving glass

B - I feel like the screw on caps will stay secure and won't spill like plastic ones may if they go upside down in the diaper bag.

On the downside, I don't know if glass food containers are BPA free (I have glass bottles and they say BPA free)

(Pedi said it's okay to nuke food, just not BM)

Re: Glass Baby Food Jars?!

  • I used glass with my DD.  It was really easy, just put in the food (but don't fill too much - obv it expands when it freezes) and then simply nuke (or thaw) when ready.  I never had any break from freezing or nuking.

  • The metal lids of the glass baby food jars are coated with bpa just like all canned food. It keeps the metal from rusting when in contact with food. I know it's plastic and you're not a fan of using it at all but I found for baby food when traveling that the little teeny rubbermaid (I think I'll go check in a minute) food containers worked perfectly. Really sturdy snap on lids and they fit two cubes perfectly. I didn't microwave on the go because I didn't want him to think that food always has to be warm plus you won't always have access to a microwave when you're out and if that's all he'll eat then you're stuck with a baby who won't eat what you have.

  • i bought some baby food and reused the jars. they work great. however they do not always seal tight. i can't use them for applesauce b/c they always leak. like the PP i have 2 small rubbermaid containers that i use on the go. no leaks with those.
(i also use the jars for carrying my food to work).
  • oh sorry, i thought you ment you were going to puree and then can your own baby food...which i know nothing about! hahaha
  • i got a bunch off freecycle for this purpose :)
