how does your child eat a banana?

I thought this would be a fun post! How does your LO eat a banana? Do you cut it up, hand them the whole thing, or other? And what do they do with it?

I hand my daughter the whole thing just pealed enough so she can eat what's showing. Then she sticks her fingers in it and eats these tiny pieces at a time. It is quite the messy process!

Re: how does your child eat a banana?

  • I slice it, then cut it into quarters.  He's not crazy about banana, but he'll eat it.

  • I peel it, break it in half and give it to him. If I don't break it in half- he tends to eat it by taking bites out of the middle and making a mess.
  • we do either the whole banana or I cut it into slices for her.

  • I still cut eveything up into small bites.

It depends on his mood. I can give him half of it, peeled, and he'll go to town. Other days, he wants it cut into slices. Either way, it's usually gone in seconds!

  • DS eats it a couple of ways. We cut it up and put it on his tray and he picks up the pieces and eats them or I hold the whole banana he he takes bites off of it. He loves banana!!
  • DD takes bites off the whole thing.  I can't get banana stains out for the life of me, so she doesn't get to feed herself with naners anymore.
  • I cut it into small pieces.  If I give him a big piece he takes a huge bite and then gags on it because he doesn't chew it very well.

  • I hand him the entire thing (peeled) and he takes such big bites that his little cheeks puff out. It's really cute and then the banana is gone within a minute or so. They are his favorite!

  • I peel it part way and hold it for him. As he eats more, I peel more. He also takes enormous bites.
  • i slice it. about a month ago i gave her half of it, and she smushed it in her hand... so i went back to slicing it!

Those stains are the worst! I always make sure she has an apron on/ play clothes

Just like I do. Bites the whole thing.  I was shocked when she did it the first time.  She can almost take out an entire banana.

    ditto.

  • I peel the banana back and give the whole thing to him.  He loves bananas and would eat 3-4 a day if I let him.

  • I usually peel it and gve it to her in half or thirds if its a big one.  if I cut it up in pieces she usually tosses them to the floor.

  • I slice it.  Maybe I will try giving him the whole thing.  DH gave him a whole peach the other day.  He loved it, and ate (almost) the whole thing.  It was adorable.
  • I peel it, break it in 1/3 or 1/2 and give it to him.  I just have to sit there and watch him closely because sometimes he takes bites that are way too big.  But I've found giving it to him this way, he'll eat more of it than if I cut it up.
  • I peel it, break it into probably four or five chunks, and then split each chunk lengthwise into three, following the natural separation pattern of the banana. Then I give him the triangle-shaped sticks.

  • Chase won't eat bananas. He loved them pureed, but is not digging the regular banana texture. He usually gags, throws it up or he won't even touch it most of the time! LOL
  • I will peel it and give her half at a time.  She has gotten really good at keeping herself clean while holding on to it and I'm not sure how's she's doing it, lol.

  • I peel it and give it to her and she holds it like I would and eats it.  I tried giving her half of a peeled banana and she smushed it, so now she just holds onto the peel and eats it normally.  She refuses to eat it any other way now.

I split it using the natural division, too.  Depending on how hungry dd is, I'll either offer the whole banana broken into 5-6 pieces then split again along the separation lines (making 3 pieces out of each 1-2 inch section).  If I give her the whole thing, she just squishes it in her fist.  But, she'll down an entire small banana if I give her the thirds.

  • I cut it in half and then peal each half seperately.  From there he can eat it like a big boy.  He sometimes takes bites that are too big, but he just spits it out or comes to me with a mouth full of banana for a mommy rescue.  :)
