Just curious?at first I was disappointing it producing 13 eggs for my ER (wanted big numbers), but my RE assured me to too many wasn?t always a good thing. (FYI she didn?t say what number was too many). Is there a 'ideal' number to shoot for during an IVF? and can overstimming produce low quality eggs /high numbers of egg but low fert rate?
Does anyone have any info or articles on this?
Re: Can overstimming produce low quality eggs?
Overstimming can definitely cause lower quality eggs - you want eggs to develop slow and steady. You don't want to jump out of the gate too quickly.
I would say that 13 eggs is great. I produce many more, but I have PCOS, so I definitely know the overstimming = low quality game!
Good luck!
I asked my RE about this - if there were any stats related to number of eggs retrieved vs fertility rate vs pregnancy rate. I was worried b/c I only had 4 eggs retrieved. My RE said that he has noticed (so not official) that his patients that get 10 or less eggs typically have better fertilization rates and that it follows the quality over quantity philosophy.
I followed that same path - I had a 100% fertilization rate with ICSI and then 75% of my embies made it to blast. We transferred 2 and froze 1.
But, on the other hand, the more eggs you have, the more options you have when it comes to picking the best embies to transfer and freeze.
Sorry if that didn't help....just my two cents!
