2nd Trimester

Late 2nd tri'ers - Pediatrician Consultation/Interview

Has anyone chosen a pediatrician yet?? My DH & I are in the process of interviewing a few that have been recommended to us. My #1 choice can't meet with us until 36 weeks....which seems a bit late.

When are you/did you meet with pediatricians? I'm just not sure if late in the 3rd tri is typical. I can post this on the 3rd tri board to if you ladies don't have much feedback yet.

Thanks Smile

Re: Late 2nd tri'ers - Pediatrician Consultation/Interview

  • I have our top choice picked out, but I'm hoping to read Dr. Sears' vaccine book before meeting with her. I haven't made up my mind yet about how important an alternative schedule is to me. If I read the book and decide that's an important issue for me, it'll likely change how I interview the doctor.

  • I am not planning to meet with my pediatrician until after the baby is born.  We are going to use the same practice that I used as a kid and my youngest sister still goes to so no need to "interview" them.

  • I am just beginning to look around and ask around to see what other parents are saying and then I will start the interviewing process.  Not something I like doing, but a must.
  • I'm using the same one I had. My nephew goes to him still and my sister said he's better then ever so it was an easy choice.?

Make sure you give them a call to confirm that they take your insurance and have an opening!

  • Check with your family physician...the physician I have been going to for the past few years also sees infants and children.  My baby will probably just go there because I am comfortable with them and I love my doctor!
  • Ugh we STILL have to find ours.  I had my bf print off a list of pedi's for my doctor to view and recommend. I couldn't give it to him at my last appointment so I have to wait till 28 weeks. I think we are supposed to have it picked out by like 31 weeks (per my doc's request) so that doesn't give us a lot of time.
  • ummm...I'm not meeting with them.

We picked one in our area that has locations near both our work & home that has a great reputation.  Plus, they specialize in pediatric asthma, which is a strong possibility for HJ to have.

  • my doctor recommended having the goal of choosing a ped. by week 32... but i haven't even set up the consultations yet.  I think you're donig fine... you have things set up, and rolling... you'll be able to choose quickly after that meeting at 36 weeks, i would assume.
  • I'm not "interviewing" doctors.  We'll chose someone close to home, who has a great reputation and comes recommended by one of our friends who has kids and go from there.  If we don't like him/her for some reason, we can always switch.
  • Do you have other choices you want to interview beside this one?  Hopefully you can meet with the others and then leave your #1 choice for the 36 week appointment and make a decision that day?  I can't remember when I interviewed my pedi but it was definitely worth doing.  I also just can't remember when I needed to let my hospital know who my pedi was.  Check into that as well.  Usually the pedi comes and checks out the babe before you go home...but maybe that's just in my area.

  • We have a couple we plan to talk to within the next couple of weeks. Now what to ask them, I have no idea

  • We have our pediatrician picked out, we have spoken to her a little, mainly to make sure that she was taking new patients because the practice is pretty popular in the area. They do a prenatal orientation with all new parents of patients before the baby is born, anytime in the 3rd tri. That is where we talk about vaccines and anything else and meet the rest of the practice, or whoever is in at the time. We haven't scheduled ours yet, mainly because we are getting ready to go on vacation. I think we are shooting for August for the orientation and meet and greet and we're due in Sept.
  • Oh gosh, another thing to do that hadn't occured to me yet. I've been so caught up in preparing to bring the baby home that I think I haven't thought about life after the baby LIVES with us!
  • We actually interview last week. The one we have picked actually had an "expectant parents" meeting where we got to go and learn policies/beliefs/practices and ask plenty of questions with the doctor. I wanted to get this out of the way and have our ped picked out because I'm supposed to let the hospital know who our ped is when I go in for pre-registration.
