My OB's office doesn't call it an NT scan and they asked me if I wanted a first trimester prenatal screening? Is this the same thing? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but they told me to go home and read this pamplet and let them know if I want it? It's something I want right??
Re: Is there another name for NT scan?
My doctors office calls it an Early Risk Assessment, a 1st tri screening is probably the same. Ask them what it screens for and if it is DS or Trisomy risk then that = a NT scan.
Whether or not you want it is a person choice, many people choose to forgo it.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Only you can make the decision if you want the scan or not. When I was on these boards the first time around I remember a lot of false positives and high percentages of chances of things being wrong (which is all they can tell you). So then you spend the next 27-28 weeks worrying that your baby could have something wrong with it, when 99% of the time, the baby is fine.
For us, we knew that even if there was something wrong we wouldn't do anything about it so I opted not to have it. I probably won't get it this time around either.
So like I said, you may want to discuss with your OB, and maybe do some research on your own.
Good luck!
My OB calls it Sequential Screening. NT Scan is probably one part of the 1st Tri Screen.
I opted to do it. I had blood work followed by an U/S (NT scan) the next day. I'll go back in a month for more blood work.
