ate my last yoplait on friday...

In an effort to reduce waste and eat more naturally, i have decided to attack my yogurt addiction!  I just couldn't stand throwing away all those stupid yoplait cups even though i love their contents oh so much.  I switched to Stonyfield in the large tub and have been adding berries.  Duh, it's so much yummier with fresh fruit!  Thanks ladies for your continued inspiration to examine our household to make it more and more EF : )

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for reusing the yogurt tubs since they aren't recyclable in our area.  thanks!

Re: ate my last yoplait on friday...

  • we haven't been creative with our reuse, but we've used the tubs as change jars, to organize stuff in the garage, and as baskets for picking things in the garden.  boring.

  • Stoneyfield, fruit and Kashi go-lean cereal has been my standby for ages!

We don't have recycling for the containers either but my parents do, so I just bring a bunch to them when I see them. Other than that, I use them for storing food.

  • I'm super cheap so I use yogurt, sour cream, ect tubs as tupperware, LOL.  I also use them though when I plant seeds.  You poke a few holes in the bottom and soil and a seed or two and voila a plant!  I use smaller ones though when I send DH out with lunch to keep his chips or cheezits from getting smashed.
  • Stonyfield will take the tubs back and they make toothbrushes and stuff from them.  I know my local co-op nursery collects them for the community and sends them once a month back to Stonyfield.  From the Stonyfield Web site:

With polypropylene #5 plastic packaging, we use significantly less plastic than we would if our cups were HDPE #2 plastic. Some communities, however, don?t recycle #5 containers. If you are out of ways to reuse your Stonyfield Farm yogurt cups, and if #5 plastic recycling isn?t available in your area, you can send your CLEAN Stonyfield Farm cups to us, and we?ll be sure they?ll get recycled. Send them to: Stonyfield Farm, 10 Burton Drive, Londonderry, NH 03053

  • When we have friends over, I use them to send leftover's home with people.  Also, I've been known to bring them when I go out to eat.  We always have leftovers, and I can use those rather than the throwaway styrofoam.  Sometimes you get funny looks, but often the waitstaff thinks it's great.
