I can't think of anything off of the top of my head, but I would consider this, yes. I was named after a mountain and river in my dad's home country of Serbia. I really love that my name reminds him of his home country. :-)
Yes. We tossed around using a middle name that somehow referenced Texas or Houston where we were living when we met. Austin, Samuel (for Sam Houston), etc.. We went with my dad's name instead.

After a song or fictional character? No. After a place that had special meaning? Perhaps. However, the only real place that I feel strongly about is Aruba, where we went on our HM. And I certainly wouldn't name a child that. The name would have to pass my 'does it sound awful on a resume' test before I'd consider it. And even then, it would most likely used as the a middle name, if at all.
Possibly, although I can't think of anything right now. I definitely would with pets, though. I named one of my late cats after my favorite figure skater (Wylie; the other cat was Zamboni to round out the figure skating references since I'm a skater) and might do something similar with any future cats. But obviously with pets there is a little more leeway!
One of my good friends named both her boys after F. Scott Fitzgerald characters because she's a big fan. It works for her.?

My grandmother was and so in her honor I will say no because she's not alive now to say no. Her name was Vilma and her middle name I would never beable to spell but it was from a character from a radio show.
I work in a preschool and a mother once told the story about how their daughter was named after where she was conceived while on their honeymoon....and by the time the daughter was 2, they were divorced!
I first thought of my son's name after hearing the Irish song Brennan on the Moor. "Bold, brave, undaunted, it's young Brennan on the moor." I liked it and it eventually became our name.
I was an English major and have lots of fictional characters that I would love to use as name inspirations. Theodore (from Little Women), Isabel (Portrait of a Lady), Miranda (The Tempest), and Catherine (Wuthering Heights - although she's not exactly what I would want a daughter to be, I love the name) are a few.
Well, we like the name Cecelia and I also love that song, so maybe that makes me like it more... who knows! Re: places, I love Spanish names probably b/c we have been to Spain a few times and I love it there but I don't think I'd actually use one b/c I don't think they go well w/ our last name.
Although, we do mainly consider Swedish names or at least names that are widely used in Scandinavia too, b/c DH is from Sweden. So I guess that is kind of connected to a special place. Other than that, probably not.

That's nice. I like that.
I know someone who named her daughter after the lake where she spent her summers when she was a child.
I have a song name. I wasn't named after the song; the name just happens to be in a famous song. People have always sung to me and I kind of like it. When I was in high school I thought I might name my daughter after a song I liked--Cecelia, Bernadette, Prudence etc.
There was one song in particular that I loved and I wanted to use that name. Now, it happens to be a name my husband and I both love. And it's the name of a character from our favorite show. I think we would use it in the future if it weren't for the heavy dork-factor present in its associations.
Yes. If DD had been a boy, we would have used Nolan Fitzgerald T.... as his name. The Fitzgerald would be after F. Scott Fitzgerlad, one of my favorite authors of all time. I'm an English teacher and when I told people this, no one batted an eye.
I also love the name Daisy, but Daisy Buchanan is not a great person in The Great Gatsby, so I don't think I could ever use it.
I see people using Holden all the time on the name board and I don't get how you can shake the literary reference of Holden Caulfield. I think Holden sounds great, but...I couldn't ever get past what a mess Holden Caulfield was.

Aww, come on Tess, now you have to tell us the name you both love. You can't just leave us hanging like that!

I'm embarrassed. This is going to label me, I know it is.
I would, although I don't have any specific name in mind. My nephew was actually indirectly named after Mike Patton, if anyone knows who that is...My DH and I are huge fans of his, and while my sister was pregnant, my DH half jokingly said, "Name him Patton!"...she ended up liking the name, so she did! : )

My name came from a book. My mom loved how it looked on the cover and loved the character. We named DD Eliza for a number of reasons, but it does remind me of Eliza Doolittle, and we call "My Fair Lady" her movie/play now. My favorite literary character is Elizabeth Bennet, so I also like that association.
At the top of our list for next one are Molly and Gracie. I love that Molly is an American Girl, so she'd have a whole series of books with her name, and I fell in love with Gracie after hearing the Ben Folds song.
I see people using Holden all the time on the name board and I don't get how you can shake the literary reference of Holden Caulfield. I think Holden sounds great, but...I couldn't ever get past what a mess Holden Caulfield was.
See, Holden WAS a mess, sure...but so many adolescents read that book for the first time and just "get" Holden, you know? It clicks, he's so relatable, and in my opinion, likable! I LOVED Holden when I was a teenager...and even though i've grown up, I still think back fondly on that book (and Holden!) as one of my favorites.

I know who Mike Patton is. My sister has been listening to Faith No More and lusting after him for YEARS!!!

I got the name Annabelle from a song my DH and I both listened to. I don't know that she'll ever be teased or anything though--it's not a popular song at all.
Oh, that's not too geeky! My DH wanted to name DS Deckard, from Blade Runner...and in a moment of insanity, I suggested the name "Anansi", from a Neil Gaiman book (major nerd-age!).

I like the name Kayleigh. I think that having a story behind a name makes it even better and I don't think that this name automatically sends people to either the show or the song. At least not me.

Thanks for saying so. At least i feel like the character is a good one, so she wouldn't be horrified when she was a teenager.
Does anyone remember the Judy bloom book Deenie? In the book, she watches the movie which inspired her name (Splendor in the Grass) and then yells at her parents for naming her after a character who went insane. I wouldn't want to do that to a child. lol
You and I are about the same age, if I remember correctly. And I am allllll about the 80's music...but I don't think I've ever heard that song. Either way, I like the name. I think it's pretty.

If I ever have another daughter, her name will be Lydia Jane. All of my other kids have middle names for dead family members, but I've run out of dead family members who really mean much to me, so I'd like to use Jane in honor of my favorite author, Jane Austen. I also just plain LOVE that name.
That said, that name is about 100% unlikely to ever be used.

All right, all right, I wasn't being coy. I had to find links.
The name is Kayleigh. The song is by Marillion circa 1985 and the show is Joss Whedon's Firefly. There. Now you know I'm old and a geek and stuff.
