HR question about working PT and benefits?

Do companies ever offer benefits to PT employee's?  Specifically health insurance???

Re: HR question about working PT and benefits?

  • some do if you work a certain amount of hours.

mine offers "job shares" - i get full benefits, just 1/2 the pay of my regular salary.  It's not the norm - but a huge perk that some companies offer.  My company only offers so many of them in any particular area - b/c it does cost them a lot more money to have job shares.  I'm in pharmaceutical sales.

  • Mine does for anything over 30 hours.
  • mine offers full benefits if you work .75
  • Mine offers benefits for PT workers but it is expensive. I carry the insurance b/c it is much better than DH's, however if I were to work even 39 hours a week instead of 40, it would go up like $200 a month! It kinda stinks having that responsibility of carrying the insurance because I feel like I have no option but to work FT even though I would truly be more happy PT.
  • I work for a university.  Anyone over 20 hours per week is eligible for benefits but you have pay extra for insurance.  I used to get my insurance premiums paid in full by the university and now I think I pay $150 a month.
  • It depends on the company.  Right now I work 28 hours a week and I get benefits but for most companies you have to work at least 30 hours to qualify.  I know that Starbucks offers benefits at 20 hours (I saw it on Oprah). Embarrassed
  • Mine did as long as you worked at least 20 hrs/week.
  • mine does, if you work FT your single health policy is 100% covered, and part time employees get whatever % of FT they work paid.  It's expensive though, so most PT employees don't participate in the plan if they have another option.

Mine does not. I do earn vacation time (at half the regular rate) and get full holiday pay, but no health insurance unless you work 35 hours a week.

  • Mine does if you work for at least 20 hours/week. Same benefits and employer covers same %. I work for an international NGO.
  • Mine does for anyone working 24 hours a week or more.  It is at a much higher rate than for FT employees though.

  • My company offers GREAT benefits for anyone who works more than 20 hours per month. I work 3 days a week and really appreciate it.?
  • No benefits to PT employees where I work.
  • Part time benefits for 20-29hr employees at a higher rate.  Full time benefits for 30hrs+.

  • I had 60% of all my benefits when working 3 days/week. My portion of the health care would have gone up (I believe I would have had to pay 40% of the Employee contribution - I went with my husbands insurance instead)

vacation, etc was at 60%. 401K matching was the exact same as before.
