1st Trimester

SO nauseous but can't vomit

I appreciate this isn't the nicest of topics, but it is driving me insane.

I'm 11 weeks now and I seem to be one of the "lucky" ones who hasn't actually been sick, but I still feel nausea throughout the day. It's to the point now where it makes me lose my appetite and I go some nights without dinner.

I'm sure it's not the end of the world, but anyone else have this?

I wish there were something I could do to either just BE sick and get the feeling overwith, or get rid of the feeling entirely. I constantly have a "sour" feeling in my stomach.

Re: SO nauseous but can't vomit

  • Not exactly that, but I haven't been sick either yet but this morning I felt like the pizza that I ate last night is still sitting undigested in my stomach and was almost in my throat.. I thought maybe it was going to come back up but no dice yet.  Maybe the feeling in my stomach is just bloat but.... ick.

  • I have felt the same way for weeks. I gag a lot, but never finish the deed. My stomach feels unsettled almost all day, but surprisingly not in the mornings. It's gotten better in the last few days of my 10th week. now that I started my 11th week, I'm hopeful it will improve more. My bloating has gone down a bit, too.

  • I am the same way. I have nights where I try to eat (take 2 or 3 bites) and just cannot get myself to have any more. I have to lay down and pray that I throw up to feel better or that it goes away.

I dont know what to do about it.

  • ginger ale and popsicles are working pretty well for me. And oddly enough cheese even though all other dairy makes me sick.

I'm in the same boat. I'm debating whether to wait until Wednesday to ask my doc about vitamin B6 or just start taking some now.
  • That is me 24 hours a day. I have vomited a few times but it hasnt seemed to help. Yesterday has been the worst so far. I have tried everything under the sun - including B6 and is isnt helping me.

I have my first prenatal this monday, so I will ask them about it and see if there is anything else I can do. It is getting to the point where it is hard for me to concentrate and get anything done at work. I am just miserable all the time.

  • What you've just described is how I have been feeling.  Don't get me wrong, I don't want to vomit.  But I have waves of nausea that start in the early morning and go until bed time.  The worst of it is just upon waking (I have two saltine before getting out of bed...they're stashed in my nightstand) and then, after 5 p.m.  Maybe it has something to do with sleeping.  I have been napping from about 4-5 p.m. each day.  Hm...I am just putting that together.

I find that I eat fine from about 7 a.m.- 2 p.m. and  then I have no appetite whatsoever.  When I do want something, I am generally craving fresh fruit with yogurt or cottage cheese.  I force myself to eat boneless, skinless turkey or chicken and dark, leafy veggies for at least one meal/day though.

  • Not sure if this will make you feel better but vomiting won't make you feel better.  At least it didn't help me.  You just get up, wash out your mouth and start all over again feeling like crap.  What DID help however was taking my prenatals right before I went to bed.  Something in those darn vitamins was making me sooooo freakin sick.  Once I started taking them at night I was fine.  Also, peppermint or ginger tea seems to help a bit too.  Try anything and everything it can't hurt, and it won't make you feel worse.  I hope this helps because I know exactly how you feel as I have been there too.

  • i've been getting sporadically nauseous throughout the day & when i think i'm really going to vomit, the feeling goes away.  i can't even think about food because it makes me sick to my stomach....i just have to make something and eat it.  no real thought can go into it or i will get nauseous just thinking about food.

  • Sorry, this is completely off topic....but I'm a Bobcat, too! DH and I both went to OU. We met there, in fact. Just thought I'd say hi to a fellow Bobcat! ;)

Sorry you're feeling so awful! I had the same thing for a few weeks--sometimes I just prayed to vomit, because I usually felt better for a little while afterwards!

  • I had this also.  6.5 weeks to 8.5 weeks were the worst.  8.5 to 10 weeks was a little better but still really crappy.  So I got desperate and tried accupuncture!  It has helped me tremendously.  I recommend trying it.
  • Yep!  Me exactly.  I have not yet been "sick" but am nauseas most of the day.  I am so thirsty, but even drinking makes me feel horrible.  If I do get a moment of feeling ok I over-eat and then feel worse cuz my belly is so full :(

    Someone make it stop!

  • I saw these in a magazine yesterday...looked interesting and I see posts here of gals wearing seabands, which work the same way:

  • Throwing up does not give me any relief.  All it does is give me a bad taste in my mouth and a burning feeling in my throat.  The nausea remains.

Going without dinner is most likely making your nausea worse.   For most people, when they start feeling more nauseous, it is a sign they should eat something.  You don't have to eat a regular dinner but eat a small amount every couple hours in the evening.   Eat whatever works - toast,  pitas with a mild dip, sometimes an apple really appeals to me.
