when you put your LO down on their back

does s/he look up at the ceiling or turn head to the side? DS always turns his head to one side immediately. He will never look up at the ceiling.  He can't play with the toys that hang over his playmat or watch the mobile on his PnP because of this. Is he too young to have the muscle strength to keep his head up? I tried googling to see if this is normal but couldn't find anything. I'll mention it to his pedi at our next appt but until then I'm a little concerned.

DD always turns her head to the side.  Not always the same side though.  If she is swaddled then she looks straight ahead.

  • My LO favors one side.  It could be the neck muscles are stronger on that side.  I hadn't really ntoiced it to much until I noticed that his head is flat on that side.  I brought it up to his ped and she says we need to turn his head the other direction, if he turns it back we are supposed to use something to stabilize it and force him to look the other way.  Now when we do tummy time I make sure if he lays his head down that I turn it both ways so the muscles get stretched and used for both sides.
