my doc told me that they recommend avoiding peanuts and other nuts during the 2nd tri if an immediate family has an allergy/sensitivity. i found out my H was sensitive to peanuts for a few years so now i am off my favorite peanut butter ![]()
just wondering if anyone else was doing this.
Re: anyone else avoiding nuts in the 2nd tri?
errm...no.
Then again, we don't have any nut allergies in the family. So it never crossed my mind.

No, but we don't have any family history of nut allergies.
I would be so sad if I couldn't eat nuts. I have been craving peanut butter like crazy since 2nd tri.
ha, I thought this same thing.
pPROM at 27 weeks, Birdy born at 28 weeks at 2lb 7oz.
DS is allergic to dairy, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. I asked both his allergist at Children's Hospital and my OB. The allergist said that there is no evidence that avoidance helps. Although they have been preaching avoidance for a while now, the incidence of peanut allergies continues to rise. The doctor said everything in moderation is fine and I should just stop eating them toward the end because of nursing. OB said it was fine to eat nuts.
If you do choose to avoid, sunbutter (made of sunflower seeds) is a pretty good substitute for peanutbutter.
Just fyi, I've also heard that it can cause asthma (not just allergies).
We have no history of nut or food allergies on either side, but - surprise, surprise - my ds has a peanut allergy. So, yes, I avoid peanut/nut products and will be hoping & praying that this baby is allergy-free.
