2nd Trimester

Boy vs. Girl pregnancy body

I went to visit my grandma yesterday who I hadn't seen in a couple of months.  She's a very blunt woman.  She told me that she didn't think that my stomach was that big, but she really thought my butt was growing.  I was surprised to hear this because I hadn't noticed a difference.  She just responded with, "Honey, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings; I'm just being honest.  It's not my fault you have a baby in your butt!"  My MIL said this is typical of a boy pregnancy.  So this poses my question...do our bodies react differently when pregnant with a boy vs. a girl?

Re: Boy vs. Girl pregnancy body

  • Personally, I think that's just another OWT.

  • I find it to kinda be true , but sometimes you have to take in to consideration the persons body type... but .. yea

No, I think every pregnancy, body and baby is different.  So much depends on your hormones, position of the baby, how you gained, etc.  This is my #2 and we do not know what we are having.  But I am carrying different and the pregnancy has been different overall.  But I have friends that had the same sex children and had totally different pregnancies.

  • I think it is mostly OWT but when PG with DS I had numerous people come up to me assuming I was carrying a boy because my belly grew straight out, I didn't look PG from the back even though I gained 45+ lbs. I don't know what this one is yet but I weigh less and haven't been putting on weight as fast but I seem to be growing everywhere. So we'll see...
  • According to every OWT out there I was going to be having a boy. We found out on Friday that everyone (including me) was wrong. We are having a girl. Everyone carries differently. P.S. Igonre ignorant comments. =0)

  • I find it to be true just from seeing my family. I have almost always guessed what someone was having based on their body type during their pregnancy. Again There's only a 50/50 shot so it could just be coincidence. Everyone in my family that has had girls becomes a little more hippy, and the mom gains it more in the face, and the boys are always more of a solid round belly but thats just my family. I personally think by the way im carrying that its a boy, so we will see!!
  • My take: I'm carrying tiny and low. But am I having a boy? Noooooo. Wink

    Everyone's different, LOL.?

  • I'm carrying all over, including my hips (eek!) and it's a boy...

Belly-wise, I'm carrying the same as my daughters (high and like a soccer ball), but I've noticed that my butt and legs have gotten bigger with my son. Lucky me, lol!
  • Someone told me just the opposite. Wider hips and butt is a girl thing...which for me rains true this time, btu it is my third pregnancy also :)
  • this is probably a OWT, but I think when you are pointy, and all belly its a boy.  When carrying a girl you are round ALL over, in the face, in the belly, butt, etc

  • My sister had two girls. her first pregnancy she carried high and gained weight everywhere. With her second pregnancy everyone thought the baby was a boy for sure because she carried low, and only had a "basketball" belly. We were all wrong. Just depends on the individual pregnancy.

  • definitely an OWT. But it's always fun to guess, right ;)

Based on the OWT and how I was carrying, DD would have been a boy...

    CP 3/07
    BFP 5/07 - Kylie born 2/08.       BPF 2/09 - Alexandra born 10/09.
TTC since 8/13 - diagnosed difficulty conceiving due to LP defect. Took vitamin B and Vitex Berry to help lengthen.
BFP 2/14 - Missed M/C found at 8.5 weeks. D&C at 9w2d. Partial Molar Pregnancy.
    BFP 11/14
  • My hips and butt expanded almost immediately with DS.  I also gained a ton with him.  This time around I'm all belly compared to what I looked like at this point with DS.  However, I am down quite a few lbs.  To me, these pregnancies have been night and day.  Coincidence?  Totally possible.
