With the Graco Quatro, most of the people in my twins class said that the kid in the back is too close to the one in the front and they kick the seat back. Same is true for my Graco DuoGlider (although there is a tiny extra distance). It is great for taking them to the doctors office or the store. Anything that is a quick trip somewhere but nothing where they have to stay in the stroller longer term.
I liked the idea of the Maclarin strollers (double umbrella stroller
that fits through average doorways). However, my kids are wide
shouldered and the seat widths are narrow for them (skinnier kids would
fit better). I didn't like the smaller tire size when it came to
longer rides like around the neighborhood. I wanted a tire and suspension that could also handle offroad.
I love my Bob Stroller (comfy seats, adjustable suspension, tires that can you can take on the street or off-road) but.. you are right, it is heavier, harder to manuever in tight places like shopping malls and for you, it might be on the tall side too.
I think this is why I own two double strollers. One for recreation... long walks/runs (Bob stroller) and one for quick trips (Graco stroller).
I haven't met the perfect, all purpose dual stroller yet but it has
been two years since I kicked the tires of strollers out there.
If you do go the Graco route for a lightweight double, Sears has them on sale on their web site every now and then but not in the store. If you buy online with the in store pick up option, you get the discount without having to pay for shipping.
You can also check Craigslist. If you aren't in a hurry, online retailers sometimes have super end of the year clearance sales. That is how I got my Bob for a super good price.
Several people I know have the BOB Double and love it. That thing is a beast though, and not the kind of stroller you keep in the trunk for malls, etc. Great for running/working out if you plan to do that with 2.
I swore up and down that I didn't need a double, and finally caved when my younger one was ~7 months old (they're ~18 months apart). I always had the baby in the stroller, and inevitably, my older one would want to be carried so I'd be carrying a toddler while pushing the stroller. Sucked, and that's when I finally bought one.
I have the Maclaren Twin Traveller, which is an older version of the Twin Techno. Bought it on CL cheap. Really nice stroller, and it's the width of a wheelchair so it fits into most doorways. I like it because I can keep the younger one strapped in, and the older one is free to hop in and out as he pleases. Both seats have full recline if your kids nap in the stroller (mine don't).
I've used it maybe a small handful of times, but I've found you really do need a double at the mall, zoo, and airport so it's worth it for me to have a (cheap, used) one for such occasions.
Re: What kind of double stroller??
The bumble ride double fits through a standard doorway.
I know people LOVE the BOB's ironman double, I am unsure of it's dimensions.

There is a sit n stand option that has two seats that can be removed to be a sit n stand as well. We're kinda leaning towards that one.
