Are you going to give birth naked?

Re: Are you going to give birth naked?

  • I don't think so. At most, I might strip down to a bra. But I can't stand the feeling of my boobs resting on my belly and having the skin stick together. It would probably make me homicidal during delivery, lol.

  • I would say no because I'm not a fan of public nakedness but I have been told by numerous people that I most likely will not care at that point and by the time I'm pushing it will be all off. I guess we'll just have to see.

    That's just strange!

I just turned it on...how awkward for the OB and nurses!

Actually, during my hospital tour last night they talked about it like it's not uncommon. The MWs and nurses don't mind it at all, they figure whatever makes the mom comfortable - it's not like they've never seen a naked female before.

I imagine I'll start with a gown, but if I feel like it needs to come off, I'll have no shame. FI will be the only non-med staff person in the room anyhow so there'll be no one to even try to be modest for.

  • not really into being naked infront of my mom or MIL so that woudl be HELL NO!!
  • i don't plan on it but i think it's like crapping on the table.  it freaks you out now but when it's showtime it probably won't even cross your mind...
  • Totally going for gown, and am freaked out enough that they have holes in the chest that I could fall out of if I'm trying to walk the halls during labor...
  • I don't even like strangers to see me in a swimming suit, but I will likely be naked.  Plan on being in a birthing tub and I just kind of imagine that I won't care at a certain point.

  • My friend did.  She just tore off that gown because she felt the need to be "free".

I didn't.  In fact, when I got in the tub, the nurses stripped my gown off me (total shock) and I had DH get me a shirt.  I mean, really, you can stick your hand in my crotch, but I didn't want everyone staring at my boobs.

    I did scream....and scream and scream.  I didn't care.

  • I plan to be wearing a gown but if anything falls out during the process I am sure I won't even notice until the baby out, then it's please clean me up and put on a new gown asap!!

  • I'll try to at least keep a cover on- I don't know if they'll let me keep a thin strapped tank on or not, but I'd like to.

My boobies are just too big to be let loose like that... they will most likely get in the way if not contained.

    Since I'm home, I'm watching a Baby Story..she's naked.

IDK..maybe nudity will be the last thing on my mind.

I hope I don't make those noises and faces when it's my time to shine.

Sblay - while I like to think that I will be covered, I know that when I've had horrible flu and such before and have been in a lot of pain say while worshipping the porcelain gods, my natural instinct has always been to get all clothing articles off of me. I fully expect the same to happen during labour. Hence the no cameras, no mirrors, no video recorders in my Delivery Rider aka Birth Plan. Oh and the confidentiality agreement everyone will be forced to sign.?

    I'm right there with ya!

In our birthing class DH noticed how many women were completely naked, and he turned to me and was like, "Oh man. You're SO going to end up naked!" He has experienced my insanity with fabric :) I am hyper sensitive to touch, and I get very claustrophobic by the littlest things when I'm in uncomfortable situations (i.e. fabric feeling like it's choking me)... so if that gown can't stay away from my neck and out of my way? Off it goes!?

P.S. I am planning on wearing a sports bra to combat the completely naked thing... then if the gown goes off, I'm not totally exposed :)??

  • I had a shirt, bra && gown on when i gave birth!  && i had an epidural.   I am a very modest person!!  I told the dr that they didnt need my shirt && everything off if i was having them vaginally && if i had to be rushed to c-section they could cut it off!
  • Yep. When you are in the thralls of labor and you are hot, you just don't care. In a normal state, I would never take off my clothes in front of strangers, but with my first two, it all came off with no hesitation. I had unmedicated births, but I think if you have an epi, it may be a bit different though.
  • In theory no.  BUT I'm due in freakin' July!  And they do not turn up the AC in the delivery/recovery rooms because they need the baby to be warm.  I had DD in March 2003 and I was crying because I was so hot.  It was 85 degrees in the delivery room.  The pain wasn't even that bad, it was just so HOT in there!

  • I wore a gown when in labor with DD, but after she was born I was being stitched up down there and nursing at the same time, so I was basically naked and I didn't care. I wouldn't have chosen to labor/birth naked, but you'll probably end up that way and it won't even seem weird.
  • I promise, the majority of you who think you care-will not, when the time comes. I gave up modesty after about the fifth time of vomiting/peeing all over myself during intense contractions. As iris stated, when you're trying to push a person out of your vagina and the doctor/nurses have done about 10 vaginals to see how far dilated you are, it really isn't that important any more. There are a lot of things that I thought I'd do before actually going through the process of labor/delivery that changed once I was truly in the situation.

I might consider it...if I was stuck out in the woods all alone went into labor and then my clothes caught fire...otherwise I'll probably go with the hospital gown route.
  • I know everyone says you won't care...but I still want one of these!

  • absolutely!  we are doing a home water birth, and nudity just goes along with the whole natural thing.  this is a natural process, after all.  i sleep naked, and definitely spend naked time with dh!

Ditto exactly.  You seriously just won't care.

SBLAY, when you're pushing a human being out of your vagina, you will not care what kinds of faces you are making.  You just want to meet your baby.

    this!
