Parenting after a Loss

My child is a beaver

I just noticed that Willem has been alleviating his teething pain - we're on Evil Tooth of Doom #2 - by biting on the rail of his crib.  When I got him up from his nap, he had flecks of finish from the wood around his mouth!  We bought from a reputable manufacturer (Munire), but I don't imagine gnawing on paint of any kind is good for a wee babe.

Anyone else's baby do the beaver thing?  How do you prevent this lovely habit?

Re: My child is a beaver

  • They sell things to put over the crib that are made of plastic to prevent them from chewing on the wood.  You are def. not alone.

  • Well, googling "crib rail protectors" gives me 63,000+ hits, so you're not alone!  And LOL that I clicked on a few and it's all "Protect your valuable crib from your baby..." not "Protect your baby from eating crib deritrus."

ETA:  "crib rail teether" also gets you more hits that may be appropriate.

  • We bought the gummi rail. That thing is awesome & removable.?
