  i'm southern and personally do not like them. i have had just about everyone in my family make me some "there way" to convents me to like them but still dont! Most ppl i know put butter and sugar on them.

  Grits are mainly a southern thing.  It's kind of like oatmeal, but smaller little grains and creamier.  I like to put sugar and butter in mine - but haven't had them in years!

  I grew up with that and prepared it the way Sare described.  I haven't had that since middle school.  My family used Farina but I never knew it was grits until later.
