Hi all. I just found out that I am pregnant with our first child a week ago (after ttc for 3 1/2 years). I am 6 weeks along and both my husband and I are thrilled. However, from the second I got a positive pregnancy test, I have been worried about everything that could happen in my pregnancy. I especially worry because I have been a Type 2 Diabetic for just over two years. Is there anyone else reading this that was/is a diabetic pre-pregnancy that could offer advice about how to deal with it? While my blood sugars have been well controlled for the past 6 months, I still worry about the complications that I could encounter as a diabetic.
Re: Type 2 Diabetic with 1st Pregnancy
I am in the EXACT same boat as you but cannot offer any advice. I am also a type 2 diabetic (I take avandamet and metformin) for almost 2 years now and my sugars are very controlled. ?In fact, I knew I was pregnant from one day of completely OUT OF CONTROL sugars (like from 50 to 250 then back to 75.... I was literally in tears!) ?But thankfully that was only for a day or two, and then went back to normal for me.
I am very nervous with how the pregnancy is going to effect my sugars, and was told at one point that I'd probably have to take insulin during my pregnancy... which is not something I'd like to do. ?But if it is what I have to do for my baby, then I will do it!
I am about 7 weeks along (just found out for sure yesterday!) and making an appt tomorrow to see a high-risk ob. ?Good luck with everything and please feel free to email me if you want to talk. ?I don't have any answers, but at least we can relate to each other. ?Crystalviolet5@aol.com ?
