I always thought sex without protection for the purpose of conceiving is TTC, but apparently I'm wrong (according to TTC 12+).
For the first 8 months of TTC, we were trying, but not giving it 100% effort, but apparently that doesn't count as TTC.
I am also a liar, and I'm on cycle 11, not 19, and I just said that I'm on cycle 19 so that I can fit in, and so that I can see an RE. Right, since we all know that I've been rushing to see an RE, right?

Re: What is considered "officially" TTC?
Not everyone discovers charting asap. I count my first cycle off BCP when I was just trying OPKs as cycle 1. Do I know anything about that cycle? No, but I learned to chart my BBT & CM. I still count it.
Don't worry about it xoxo
it's called a kilt, he's scottish
IMO ttc means having unprotected sex. No matter how aggressive you are with it, if you're screwin without protection, you are ttc.
As for your lying...shame on you! LOL
I'm confused.
Why does the first 8 months not count?  What do we do in the first 8 months that isn't giving it 100%?
Help please.
Now that you've posted this, I think it would be ill-advised to come back and post on 12+.
I didn't plan on it.
thank you baby jesus
Out of all of my female friends I am the only one who knows a damn thing about charting. Does that mean that my friends who spent a year TTC didn't really try because they didn't chart, thats bullshit.
I guess they weren't trying hard enough huh? That's just crazy!
I really don't understand the hostility. I guess newbs are just not allowed in your world.
Oh me-oh-my.
Well. personally I had no idea about charting or anything when we first started. We assumed it would be easy and it would just happen. So until I discovered the bump and all this other information we went on the knowledge we had at the time and just did it a lot. I consider that TTC.
However I do think that this exact lack of knowlegde causes a lot of couples think they are having TTTC, when really it is just bad timing. I think this whole debate goes back to this, the fact that even with perfect timing you only have a 20% chance, and the fact that completely healthy couples can still take up to a year or more to conceive.
mermaids are.... part of my worrrld
They have made that obvious throughout the last couple weeks, regardless of how much they say it's not the truth!
IMHO if you're just having sex without protection, but you don't know when or if you O then it?s not really TTC, it?s more like just not trying to prevent getting ku. Kind of like, if it happens it happens attitude. At that point you really only have a 15-20% chance of getting ku anyway. Everyone has their own opinion.
My thoughts exactly. Whether I know about charting and the other stuff or not, if I'm off BCPs and having sex in hopes of conceiving, it's TTC.
not true. i just started posting there last week and i'm getting all kiiiinds of love.
Not true. Everyone is a newb at some point. I haven't been posting there long.
So that makes me a liar?
At first I didn't consider the first 8 months as TTC. But after a while on the boards, I realized that most people still consider it TTC even if you're not completely informed on the process. So I added the 8 months back in.
But why does it even matter? TTC 12+ seems to think I did it so I can run to an RE and get Clomid ASAP. Well I did get an RE referral months ago, but I haven't gone, nor do I plan on going any time soon.
Is it still fair to say I lied? I don't think so.
I don't either.
After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!
My Blog
TTC # 2 BFP 03/02/13 = CP, BFP 05/14/13 = CP, BFP 08/09/13 = CP
RPL testing = normal
TI Cycle #1, 50 clomid days 3-7, 150 iu Follistim days 8-11 = BFP! EDD May 22, 2014
Betas: 13 DPO = 79, 15 DPO = 149, 19 DPO = 788, 22 DPO = 2031
Even with charting you only have a 20% chance, besides everyone and there mom has told me to stop "trying" and I'll get pregnant so maybe the odds go up when your not tracking every little twinge...who knows!
i was a newb once. i've managed to escape unscathed, except for that one whipping incident.
honestly, it has to do more with the tone of your post, than the # of cycles you've been ttc. i hate numbers.
I agree with the others that if you are having unprotected sex for the purpose of getting pregnant, then you are TTC. Not everyone knows about charting and OPK's and all the other gizmo's out there. I have a friend who thinks that the online ovulation calander, some wine and some cute undies are what will work for when she starts - that is how she wants to start and does not want to know anything else right now (I told her to talk to me if she want some real info). I still consider that trying. Just because I had done my homework early one does not make me any better than her. Everyone learns about things at a different time and takes different steps. The month you start having sex to have a baby is when I think a TTC journey starts.
Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
From someone who "just didn't use protection" for 6mos & charted for another 6 mos before BFP #1, had a m/c, and then pretty much charted/TTC for almost 2 yrs w/ unexplained IF before another BFP - a comment resembling "just stop trying and you'll get pregnant" would receive a punch in throat. Just saying, IMO.
I don't give a crap what you do with your doctors. It's just funny that it changed about the same the board name changed.
After 7 years of no ovulation...
BFP#1 10/24/11 ~ EDD 6/29/12 ~ Natural m/c 11/2/11
BFP#2 2/3/12 ~ Alice born 9/26/12
I wasn't telling you that, I was saying I have been told that by countless people, all of whom have gotten KTFU without "trying" by your definition.
I just don't understand how you can say not charting is not trying. Regardless if you know exactly when you O'd, or if you even did, if a couple has sex every other day throughout her entire cycle, that most certainly is trying!
Actually, it wasn't about the same time. The board name changed just recently, right? I changed my cycle count a long time ago. I think as long as I've been a more active poster in GP, it's been with the first 8 cycles included. I didn't play with my numbers to "fit in."
this exactly. and i'm completely reserving judgment on the chick in question.
and i need to know, where any of these months ttc with an IUD?
pmarie - please get your facts straight before you make accusations like that. I have known bbjoys on this board for at least 5 months and her numbers have progressed from 14 to 19.
Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
i believe the "facts" are that the numbers just up and changed. those are the facts. geeesh.
this new gp drama is fvcking stupid.
