I do this way too often, I can go a day before it'll smell when dried. It's my least favorite chore, but I only make it harder by not dealing with it right away.
I know this isn't your question, but my preferred method of lazy laundry is to take clothes out of the dryer and place them on top...then throw the next load in the dryer. Then you can let everything stay forever. And who's kidding who - folding the clothes is the worst part!
Re: How long can I let a load sit in the washer...
This is my method. Except with diapers. If diapers sit, they get rewashed. ?
Probably this. I just let one sit for 2 days
About an hour before it starts to smell.
