Since we got home from hospital 5 days ago, DC, who is only 10 days ond now, produces anywhere from 12-16 poop diapers a day. Is there a # of poop diapers that one should be concerned about? It's mustardy-seedy/flaky poop....and his butt is SO irritated...We use desitin and water on a wash cloth instead of wipes until things clear up. I am nursing him, but suppliment every few days with formula when he seems raviniouis....could it be something I am eating?
Re: 10 day old: How much poop is too much poop?
BTW - I have to give my 2 cents here
Please do not supplement when your DS seems ravenous. He is building up your supply. If you take him away from the breast...you are only hurting your supply for him and you may put yourself in a situation where you'll HAVE to supplement because you don't have enough for him. These first weeks are very critical for your supply. Let him nurse as often and as long as he wants...that is, if you're really wanting to stay with BFing. If not..then it doesn't matter.
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
Thank you...I was trying to say this and hope I wasn't portraying that formula was bad. I was trying to get the point across that if she wants to EBF...supplementing is only going to hinder that.
I totally get what people are saying...(I am not taking it in a bad way...and common sense just says that this is what he is trying to do..) I was just needing a break and took the easy way out (just being honest!)
I'm gonna pump and hunker down the rest of the day for lots of feedings. I just feel like a dairy farm....i don't remember this when I nursed my 1st DC.
Ah....it's all coming back to me now! Life was easier with just one. No one to entertain and run after!
Wish me luck!
Good luck! Stick with it and all will be fine...as I'm sure you remember! Just use the Lasinoh (sp?) after every feeding...that prevented me from having cracked nips.
And this nursing around the clock thing doesn't last long! Remember..it's temporary!
I know this seems so hard to do and you are probably sore but she's so right. I got stuck in this trap and you don't want to have to supplement at every feeding in a few weeks. Good luck! Oh, and the # of poopy diapers - toally normal.
