My DS's ear stinks.....is this an infection??

He tends to get a lot of earwax in one ear in particular--and this ear suddenly really smells icky--almost like an ear wax smell.  He had a fever on Sunday and 1/2 of Monday but has been ok since.  Has a horrible stuffy nose/runny nose and now a little cough....so not sure if it's just that he gets more earwax while he's sick or if I need to see a pedi for this.  We are supposed to go for his 9mon next Friday (the 24th)--and it's a 45 min drive each way, so it's not exactly easy to go--but I also don't want to miss an infection-poor guy has been sick enough this year. =(

 

Anyone have experience with 'stinky ear'??

    I've read that a telltale sign of an ear infection is if their ear smells.  Sorry!  Sad

    DD's ear smelled a bit funky too, and it was an ear infection. I think its the puss that makes it smelly. Sorry and hope he feels better!

    Yes that is an ear infection! My mom was telling me the other day when my brother was small she never noticed it until there was a smell and she saw stuff coming out of his ear. I guess my brother never cried or anything so it got really bad before my mom noticed. She said his dr said they were lucky his ear drum did not burst.i would get him to the dr first thing in the morning if I were you!!

    Yes, that is usually a sign of an ear infection.  And from what my pedi says it is really common for infants to get an ear infection when they are recovering from a cold...
