S/O: Liz's post 'worst mom'

From LizLemon post below:

Moms on this board who think they are the worst mom in the world because "my kid is watching tv" or "I gave her a cookie one day last month" need to shut up.  You don't honestly think you are a bad parent because of this.  You just want to show that you are a better parent than the rest of us.  And if you honestly think you are a bad parent because of this you need help.

Yesterday I posted that I felt guilty because I was home with DD, who ran a fever the day before, but now seemed fine and all she wanted to do was watch Cinderella and Little Mermaid and I was letting her.

I didn't say I was the worst mom, so maybe this doesn't apply to me, but I did feel guilty.  I WOHM and only get to see DD about 2 hours/night and weekends (when I am not travelling for work) so I feel like I have to 'make-up for it' by making the absolute most of all the time with her I have.

I can't be the only mom with this kind of 'working mom' guilt.  Can I?

  • No, you are not by a long stretch.

  • No, I have this guilt too, I just express it with crap I buy at Target on my lunch.
  • I understand. I feel that way every night when she's pulling at me and I just need to make her some dinner but I know she just wants my attention. Its not easy.

I thought I was the only one who did this!

  • I completely agree w/ xb.  I usually don't feel too bad when I let my DS watch tv for a couple of hours b/c I know he isn't watching tv all week at dc. On the other hand, I feel guilty when I TRY to get him to watch it just so I can get something done - or like you, when they are home sick and I am torn b/w trying to work from home, getting a chance to clean up the house, and spending some alone time with sick child (who like you said, often dont always seem sick at home).

Totally tough - and I read your post yesterday and know exactly how you feel!  I also feel guilty when I am sick, but I still send my kids to dc just so I can sleep in and rest (I ration that it helps me get better faster!).  I know that most SAHM dont have this luxury. :)
  • FWIW, I don't think your post yesterday would have qualified at all.  I feel the mommy guilt too!
