My DD is potty training. We've just started to get serious with it. She wears real undies in the evenings. Sunday I noticed that she signaled to potty about every 20-30 min. I attributed to her being home with me and me allowing her to drink whenever she wanted. Yesterday, I noticed the same thing. She'd been at daycare and her last drink had been about 3-4 hours prior. She was still going every 20-30 minutes. It was only a little trickle though. She shows no other signs of a UTI. I called my pedi's office and they think it may be nothing. He says it may be newness of the whole potty training thing and the fact that she's recognizing the urge to pee. They still want me to bring her in to be checked.
My question is has anyone else had this happen?
Re: XP: Potty Training and frequency of urination
DD is/was the same way... I put her back in diapers for the most part because she's not telling me when she has to most of the time. I was really surprised at how frequently she would have to pee when I put her in underwear. She'd go on the potty, I'd put her in underwear, she'd pee in them, I'd think -okay, so she's now gone again, what are the chances - put her in underwear again and another half hour later she'd wet her pants. Back in diapers for the most part.
We just started with big girl panties last weekend. I have found that my DD goes about every 30 minutes. I set the kitchen timer to remind us both that it is potty time. Quite frequently she is telling me she has to go potty a minute or two before the timer actually goes off. It is just a trickle or very small amount though. I think she is just getting the sensations figured out.
I think this could be one of two different scenarios:
1. Like your doctor says, she's just caught up in the whole newness of using the potty and staying dry. When she "has to go potty" she gets your undivided attention and praise -- why not do it over and over again? She'll settle down when the novelty wears off.
2. She is able to recognize the feeling of having to go, but she's not physically ready to hold in the urine for a long enough time to make it worth potty training her at this point.
If the doctor doesn't find anything unusual and the novelty doesn't wear off after a week of potty training, you might just wait a few more months until she's physically a little bigger and has the capacity to hold it for longer.
