Babies: 0 - 3 Months

starting solids...

Did you all start at 5 months?  My doc told me not to even start her on cereal til 6 months, but I started her at 4 because she just seemed ready (and I've always read cereal at 4 mo).  I thought I'd wait another few weeks for the solids, but just wondering what you all do.

Re: starting solids...

  • There are definitely different opinions from pedi's on this.  I'm starting DD on cereal when she turns 4 months.  I think she's ready.  She watches us eat and is very interested in what we're doing.

  • I started rice cereal at 4.5 months, we're starting oatmeal this week at 5 months and then I'll ask the dr at 5.5 months (his 6 month appointment) if it's time to start veggies. He loves food, so I don't think it's too bad for him.

  • I consider cereal a solid.  I started cereal at 4 months too, and that's what the pedi recommended.  I haven't started fruits and veggies yet and I'm not sure when I'm going to.  DD's doing fine with rice and oatmeal at this point, and I only offer her 2 Tbs in the morning and at dinner time.  She usually doesn't eat all of it though.
  • waiting until 6 months for everything except breastmilk.

  • we just started this weekend.  She was 19 weeks.

I really wanted to wait until she was 6 months old, but she was definitely ready.  She has been watching us eat and is very interested in it.  We started on Friday at lunch and by Sunday she was already leaning in for the spoon.

I give up trying to add my kids' photos. Just know that they are adorable.
