We were going to try and get our floors refinshed before the big day, but it's wayy too expensive so I'm gonna just try and do a really thorough cleaning, they're older floors and I have two huge dogs so they need it badly.....any product/technique recommendations?? TIA

Re: What do you use to clean your hardwood floors?
You have to go oldschool on this one: Murphys Soap
ditto this PLUS give it a good swiffering before washing.
That's what I read on Yahoo Answers...and it did seem a little old school lol but I guess its tried and true!
I'm going to go with everyone else and suggest Murphy's, which is what I use. Normally, I wet clean the floors every other week. I use it cut with a lot of water (it's pretty strong - I think the bottle says to use 1/2 cup Murphy's to 1 gal water), but if you want to get a good cleaning, you may want to make it a lot stronger, and just rinse thoroughly.
It is gentle, so it won't hurt the floors, but it does tend to stick and it is slippery. Whenever I make it stronger than it recommends, I always have to finish with a "rinse cycle" or two - mopping with straight water.
i second the vinegar and warm water. that is what we use. apparently, vinegar is a great germ killer and disinfectant.
I've always heard that Murphy's causes a build up on the floors, but so many gals here suggest it, so my hearsay advice may not be credible, though I thought I'd throw out there what I've heard.
The best product I've ever used is Bona system for making them look completely refreshed, but it's expensive. For weekly cleaning, I use Method Wood for Good (or is it Good for Wood?, something like that). I love the smell of the Method. Now, you have me thinking I may spend some time this weekend on my hands and knees cleaning the hardwoods in an attempt to get this labor started!
Murphy's Oil Soap.
Occasionally we'll also use a dust mop with Orange Glo for "in between" cleanings.
