Increasing supply for EP?

My daughter was born 4.5 weeks early and due to time in the special care nursery and supplementing for weight purposes with a bottle she rejects my boobs throughout most of the day (randomly she will take one but I know she's not getting enough from it and we still supplement with pumped milk every feeding). I didn't want to be an EP'er but here we are...will my supply increase with the PISA overtime (I'm pumping every 2-3 hours) or will it stay the same/decrease quickly as she is not feeding from me? Any advice on increasing supply through pumping? I'm getting at least 25-30 oz. per day now, but have no idea how much she will eventually need.

For those of you who EP, do you take your pump with you if you leave the house for the day? I assume yes- but it is such a pain altogether. I can see why some women give up for formula, and I never thought that I would say that. I really hope to be able to continue to do this for her.?

  • YES you HAVE to pump every two to three hours. simple as that. you can try power pumping. but only more pumping will increase your supply

  • Sadly, the pump was like an extra appendage for those first 12 weeks. Like Stacy said, the only way to increase supply is to keep pumping!

  • 25-30 oz is really very good for one week.  I would keep trying to breastfeed at each feeding and perhaps use an SNS.

Yes, you need to bring your pump everywhere.  I have pumped in the car, in bathrooms, in other people's offices.  You learn to deal with the pumping issue.

I give up trying to add my kids' photos. Just know that they are adorable.
  • I'm not EPing now but I did with ds1 for a while (he was a biter). You can boost supply with oatmeal and fenugreek (or something like mother's milk tea that has fenugreek in it). Another helpful thing is to rent a hospital grade pump - it really makes a difference.
