Babies: 9 - 12 Months

6 month old- 102.6- WDYT?

My DD just turned 6 months old yesterday.  This morning she felt a little warm and she had a 101 temp.  Now it's 102.6 and I'm a little concerned.  She seems a little lethargic but doesn't seem to be in pain so I don't think it's an ear infection.  She is a little congested.  I generally like to let fevers do their job so I don't give tylenol unless it gets high or they seem to be uncomfortable.  Would you just give tylenol at home or take her to the pedi?

  • I would give her Tylenol and if it doesn't drop to below 101, then I would call the Pedi. But, since it's getting late in the day (and I don't know how late your Pedi office is open) I would call the pedi anyway.

I hope she feels better soon!?

  • This happened to Colin at the same time. Congestion, 101 fever.  I called the pedi and made an appt for the next morning.  the fever was 102 the next day.  When we went, nothing, no ear infection.  she wanted us to come back 2 days later and sure enough ear infection (his fever was up to 104 also).

i would call the pedi and maybe set up an appt for tomorrow.

  • And I definitely gave tylenol.
  • We had this last week and luckily it happened the same day as DD's 6 month check up.  Her's topped out at 102.1.  Pedi and I talked at length about fevers especially since this one had no other symptoms except some lethargy.  His recommendation is not to call unless: fever hits 103 or higher, Tylenol or Motrin does not lower temp, or baby starts acting differently like excessive crying etc.  I realize most pedis have different philosophies but just thought I'd share mine's, I've come to really respect his opinions.
  • Tylenol does not tell you the exact dose to entice you to call the doctor.  We were told that if there is a fever over 100.4, call.
  • I would give tylenol & call the pedi. We were told to call if the fever was over 101... & if your LO is lethargic that would be a red flag for me personally.

  • Thank you all for your replies.  I gave her some tylenol and will see if that brings the fever down and perks her up a bit.  I won't hesitate to call the pedi or even take her to the ER if she seems to get worse.
