Do you go to work sick??

There are now 3 of us sick (and will probably be missing some work) due to our receptionist coming in to work sick all week. I get not wanting to miss work- we all have bills and all.

The real kicker for me though, is that this girl is refusing to go to the Dr. (you know so she's not contagious) because she's trying to pull some insurance scam to cover a pregnancy.

Come on now...I've worked for an insurance company, this IS NOT going to work. Just go to the Dr. so no one else gets your cold.

I'm just venting here, nothing I can do about it now!

I am "sick" now and at work. but right now it's just allergies from all the damn pollen and wind out here. I'm going on vacation next week but otherwise if it got worse i would call in so no one else gets it.

Allergies I get. You can't give half the staff allergies.

It depends on how sick I am. I generally just load myself up with drugs and go in so I can save my days if its just a common cold, but if I am really sick and achy then I will call in. I also keep lysol at my desk and hand sanitizer so I can help get rid of the germs.

I usually always come in if it's a cold but I'm returning today after 3 days off with the flu. I was miserable and could barely get out of bed, that's when I stay home!

covering a pregnancy - not sure how that's going to work?!

I don't. But my job is VERY flexible. I just started back from maternity leave last week and have only been in the office once. Colin was sick last week and I got sick on Monday night. I have been sick all week and have just worked from home. If my job wasn't as flexible though, i probably would have gone in today. i still get paid if I am home.

My job sucks-if you take more than 5 sick days in a year, your job is at risk and you get put on an official "warning". The only way around it is if you miss more than 3 consecutive days, you can apply for FMLA, which includes having the doc fill out paperwork, submitting to HR, and hoping it gets approved. Total PITA and big risk, cause if it doesn't get approved (my friend had the stomach virus and hers was denied!) you just missed 3 days of work, unexcused. This leads to tons of sick people at work (3000 employees), making the place basically a crawling germ. It's gross.

I've had jobs like this before, and had to come in with strep. The thing about where we work now, our boss is super flexible. She would let receptionist out for a couple of days.

There have even been times that I've gotten sick/then on antibiotics within a few hours and not missed any work. The thing that makes me mad is that she's doing this to be dishonest. Ugh!
