Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Question for those who have LO's that sign

At what age did you start teaching them? I know it is too early now, I just want an idea of when to try it. I have the Baby Einstein DVD. Any other videos/tools you would recommend?

TIA

  • We have the Baby Signs book/DVD, which is pretty good. You can start at any age - we are teaching just a couple of signs right now and I think DS will be able to understand and maybe sigh a bit by about 7 months.

  • We started doing it consistently at 6mo. and she just started getting it. Milk and all done are the only ones she has down. I would start asap so you get in the habit of it.

  • It depends entirely on the kiddo. DS has seen us sign since he was 2 months old and only once in a while signs.

  • This is super late, but, we sign to DD and also use the DVD "Baby Signing Time."  We are on Volume I right now, they have a bunch...and then regular "Signing Time" for later.  We started signing to DD when she was 4.5 months old and using the DVD around 5 months.  She signs "milk" sometimes, but not always.  I think she'll be doing a bunch of signs in another month or two.  Good luck!
  • We've been using BE's dvd since 6mos and still no signs :( And we are incredibly consistent. But if I know my LO, she'll just one day wake up and sign all of them at once lol. She also doesn't wave hello or bye bye yet and that's usually a marker of rediness for signing.
