My mom and I are struggling with what her should be, since this will be her first grandbaby. Also, because she still feels young herself! We are ruling out the traditional "Grandma", "Granny", "Nana", etc. Anyone have any fun ones that they don't mind sharing? TIA!
Re: Anyone have any unique "Grandma" nicknames to share?
Not THAT unique but here goes
MIL is Grammie
Mom is Nana
Step-mom is Meme (Mimi)
My Mom's mom is Nina
My Dad's mom is Memere (french)
we're big on abbreviations. GC for Grandma Catherine. or GG for Grandma Gretchen. etc...
My MIL is going to be lokuama.
Would that be pronounced Neenee? Yeah, my mom wants to be called that too.. see my PP on my thoughts..
Linz, that's too funny with the Neenee and Peepee.
Thanks girls for sharing. My mom did mention that she might like to be called "Moo" but I really don't want her to be associated with the noise that a cow makes. lol.
Yiayia (Y-eyeY-ah)
greek for grandma
My inlaws will also be abuelita and abuelito, they are puertorican.
Nothing really fun. My mom is the traditional 'Nana' while my grandmothers were traditional for us 'Nanny' and 'Abuela'. But my MIL will be Bubbe.
One of my best friends calls hers Memaw. I've also heard Mimi, Mamaw & Gigi.
LOL!
My Blog
That made me laugh out loud
MIL is Grandmama (it was already established with my SIL's kids)
My mom is Nonnie (she is not a nana or a grammie...) her mom is Nana and lives near us, so it works..
Lol, it would be funnier one day when my dad and DS are out in public and he's yelling "Peepee, I need my Peepee!!"
I've heard Grandee before.
I also have a friend whose mom is now "Honey" to her nieces and nephews. They always heard her husband call her Honey and they thought that was her name, so it stuck. They now call her Honey, which is cute:-)
Mine is Nana (Italian) and MIL is G.G.
lol at "Heartless B*" hahaha....
Or you could get a shirt made up for grnadparents day:
"I Love My Peepee"!
Or you could get a shirt made up for grandparents day:
"I Love My Peepee"!
Lol thats great.. haha.. I asked my dad what he wants to be called and he said whatever he wants to call him. So yeah... he'll prob be Peepee. Oh well.
My mom will probably be Grammie since my nephew calls her that.
My dad...hopefully grandpa but since my nephew calls him Bob I have some fear!
My MIL - Nana My FIL - Pop They were so excited to ask us if they could be called that. I really didn't have a preference but I will have to work on those names since both my grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa.
My mom is MEME & Boyfriend's mom will be MiMZi
My dad is Pops and my mom is Grammy. My ILs are Nana and Papaw.
My dad's cousin's grandkids call her "Toots". Thats what she wanted! When one of the boys was younger, he couldn't say "Toots".....it came out "Tits". She had to live with that until they taught him the correct way to say it! LOL!
My parents wanted my niece to call them Grammy and Grampy.
My niece changed Grammy to Mimi (which my mom loved), and she had a hard time pronouncing Grampy so it would often come out "Greepy". Sometimes it sounded like she was calling him "Creepy"!
My MIL's name is Camilla (rhymes with vanilla), and my SIL suggested our baby call her "Gramilla". MIL hated that idea!
I normally only pop over here to lurk (currently 35w), but I had to add to this due to the Moo. My DD is 19 months and was calling my Mom Meemow, but she decided to call her Meemoo instead. Shortly after she changed my Dad's from Papaw to Papoo.

A former co-worker (pretty young grandma in her late 40's-beautiful-hip-young) decided that she and her DH would be called "Hunny and Pops"
I thought that was cute.
We have very close older friends who are like parents to me and DH and will be like grandparents to our baby.
They will be called Poppy (him) and Honey (her). I love the names!
