Spent night in ER

(XP on Multiples)

My heart can't handle any more scares. I woke up at 3:00AM this morning gushing bright red blood. There was a lot - when I pulled down my pants the blood literally hit the floor. I was beyond freaking out. Had RE paged and got his PA. She told me to go to the ER. We got there and I was admitted, the basically spent the next 2 hours sobbing on the gurney waiting for an ultrasound. But the ultrasound immediately showed all 3 babies going strong and with heatlhy heartbeats. They measured right on target - one was even 2 days ahead - and their heartbeats were in the 150-155 range. So then I sobbed some more. So did DH.

PA finally came in around 10:00 and told me that she thought I had just sat too long yesterday. I worked all day and then went to BIL's for dinner and board games. I HAD been very uncomfortable at BIL's for awhile - I felt a lot of pressure very low in my abdomen and it was a little painful to sit - but it went away. PA said I needed to lay down whenever I felt anything unusual and that I also needed to be sure to lay down at least 2 hours a day. She said I also need to see about working from home 1-2 days a week for awhile. So all seems okay and I was released. The bleeding seems to have completely stopped. I'm going to see RE Monday and then again the following Monday for monitoring until I move to the OB on the 12th. My heart can't take much more of this!

  • SOOOO scary! I'm so sorry. Glad you and the little ones are okay!!
  • Man that is so scary!!!!  (((HUGS))) I just can't even imagine!

Is there any way you could work maybe 4 hr days?  That would be cool.  Also ask your doctor about water aerobics.  They recomend it for high risk people a lot who need to get moving a little but can't put any stress on the babies.  From what I understand it helps circulation to the uterus especially.

  • that is so horribly scary! but i'm glad you and babies are OK... taking it easy is defenitely important with twins - I hope your OB can figure out how to help you get through this without having to lay down too much!

  • My last pregnancy started out as triplets after using follistim and an IUI. At 8 weeks the HB's were 98, 160, and 165. I started bleeding at 8 weeks. I lost one triplet at 12 weeks and started bleeding again. Then at 18 weeks, I started bleeding again, and lost the twins that were left a couple days later. I was in labor for 12 hours, and bled A LOT (I kept hoping my second twin wouldn't be lost, but he was), and I needed 2 units of blood, plus suffered from anemia for a month after. I would highly recommend being very hyper vigilant about any discomfort you might have.  Once I had lost the 3rd baby at 12 weeks, my OB told me that I could be considered "normal" pregnancy because "twins were easy". Big mistake! Because of my doctor being nonchalant about the whole thing, I lost all my babies. I would definitely visit a perinatalogist, get regular cervical length checks (at least once a month, eventually working up to once a week), and take loads of Vitamin B to help with the bleeding, and blood flow to the uterus. Then, eventually ask for progesterone shots (you should be on progesterone suppositories now) which helps reduce preterm labor by like 60%, and at about 24 weeks, get tested weekly for an enzyme that predicts labor in the next week (90% accurate or so) . Oh, and gain at least a pound a week so your babies are bigger (they probably will come at about 32 weeks). Because you are pregnant with triplets due to infertility treatments, your body is more likely to try to reject them than if you had naturally gotten pregnant with multiples. Not trying to scare you, but be very careful with your pregnancy, insist on top medical care for you and babies, and if you feel any pain or pressure, this is not normal, despite what others may tell you. Oh, and if you see your mucus plug (looks like clear jello with some snot), run to the hospital because that means that your cervix is opening. I wish you the best luck, and lots of baby dust. I know how hard this is.
  • Thank god you and the babies are all ok. ?That must have been an awful scare. ? I hope things move as smoothly as possible for you from now on. ?

  • WOw, how scary! I'm so happy everything looks fine...

I know it's not helpful when you see bright red blood flow, but another Dr. told me when I saw her (couldn't see my Dr. that day) re: some spotting that she's had patients come in with bright red blood and all was fine, so even then things can work out!

  • I am glad everything is ok! I can totally relate to bleeding scares...  I bled quite a bit my whole 1st trimester.  I remember a few times going to the bathroom and looking in the toilet- the toilet bowl was filled with bright red blood.  SO SCARY  I know.  i have had blood which just seemed to be pouring out of me too.   Just aweful.  Mine ended up being placental related.  Just rest as much as you can!!!  When my bleeding started they put me on bedrest for a while.  Lots of rest and water.

Again, I am glad things are ok!
